Briefing

ENGLISH VERSION:

We’re a young couple, 34 years old. We’re both medical doctors, and always in a rush. We work long hospital hours, leave early in the morning and come back late in the evening, around dinner time (Italian dinner time, which is 9ish). A lovely cat called Anacleto is our only current flatmate, but we plan on extending the family soon! We love cooking, and sharing spaces to do things together (watching TV, evening reading while relaxing on the sofa, chatting, etc). We enjoy our outdoor spaces (particularly to grow plants, grill delicious sunny BBQs and sip lazy morning coffees), and never miss the occasion to have our friends and family around for even meals or holiday weekends in town. Yet, we like having multiple spaces, which allow some me-time in case we need to work, or simply pursue one of our hobbies (particularly painting and piano playing).

Our flat is 125sqm (1345 sqf) and has a pretty basic layout: large entrance hall, from which you can access two generous living rooms (room A and B, both facing the main street), the Kitchen (room E), and a small toilet. The Kitchen opens onto a narrow balcony which faces the internal courtyard. A smaller hall, separated by an arch, takes you to the night area, constituted by the master bedroom (room C), a smaller second bedroom (room D) and the main bathroom. The master bedroom opens onto a second balcony, which faces the main road instead.

The main idea would be for us to renovate the apartment and “rejuvenate” its overall look. We would like to preserve the original fishbone parquet floors of the living rooms and the master bedroom, but we need to renovate kitchen, bathrooms, and corridors/halls. Our maximum renovation budget is 70,000euros (83,000USD c.ca).

Ideally, the final result would be a fresh modern apartment. Something that talks simplicity and elegance, while being warm enough to welcome our friends and family, and to make our everyday evenings pleasant. We dream about an apartment that becomes our daily relaxing after-work-detox. We very much like the style of Scandinavian and modern interiors: open spaces full of light, where whites and greys meet different wood textures, and transform into a warm cozy environment. We are pretty sure we would prefer the master bedroom to stay our bedroom, and the small bedroom to become the future kids space. Instead, we’re not sure whether to keep the layout of the living rooms and kitchen as it is. We would probably benefit from a third room: a studio (which can transform into guest bedroom) placed where the kitchen is at the moment. This would naturally require to move the kitchen into one of the two living rooms, and to open up the wall in the middle to make one large open space. We are particularly curious to compare these two alternative layout (separate kitchen with two living rooms and two bedrooms, or open space kitchen living room with two bedrooms and one studio). A real perk would be to create a small corner somewhere in the house for the laundry.

ITALIAN VERSION:

Siamo una giovane coppia, abbiamo 34 anni e facciamo entrambi i medici. Siamo sempre di corsa, con sveglia la mattina presto e orari lunghi a lavoro, abbiamo un gatto (Anacleto) e ci piacerebbe in futuro allargare la nostra famiglia e avere dei figli.
Ad entrambi piace cucinare, fare le cose insieme la sera (guardare la tv, leggere un libro, chiacchierare, ecc), sfruttare gli spazi esterni (dove far crescere tante piante, grigliare qualcosa e bere un caffè), avere amici a casa per cena e poter accogliere, all'occorrenza, famigliari e amici che vivono in un'altra città.
Naturalmente ci piace anche avere uno spazio dove poter studiare e coltivare gli interessi individuali (lettura, disegno, musica, ecc).
Attualmente l'appartamento (di circa 125 mq) ha un "taglio" molto classico: si entra su un grande ingresso, dal quale si accede a due grandi stanze da giorno (con affaccio lato strada; room A e room B), alla cucina (room E; con accesso al balcone lato cortile) e ad un bagno piccolo; segue un piccolo disimpegno per la zona notte composta attualmente da un bagno più grande, una stanza piccola (room D) ed una stanza padronale (room C; con accesso al balcone lato strada).
Ci piacerebbe che l'appartamento fosse semplice, elegante ed accogliente, ma contemporaneamente funzionale e più moderno del "taglio" attuale; ci piace lo stile scandinavo e moderno, gli spazi aperti e luminosi ed il legno. Vorremmo che la casa fosse calda e che diventi il nostro luogo di relax dopo una giornata stressante in ospedale.
Ci piacerebbe avere una camera padronale, una camera per i bambini ed uno studio/camera ospiti; vogliamo mantenere i doppi servizi (magari uno con vasca) e per la parte giorno siamo aperti sia a soluzioni "open space" con eventuale cucina "a vista" sia a soluzioni più classiche, con cucina separata. Un sogno sarebbe avere l'angolo lavanderia.
Dell'appartamento attuale ci piacerebbe mantenere, se possibile, i parquet originali a spina di pesce, che si trovano nelle due grandi sale da giorno (room A e room B) e nella camera padronale (room C).
Il nostro budget di massima è 70000 euro ...... siamo nelle vostre mani!
