Description

In 1924, SimonArzt was one of the first shopping centers to be built in the Middle East. Over the years, the eye-capturing building on Port Said's waterfront was left abandoned, leading to its deterioration and dilapidated condition. The intervention's aim was to revive SimonArzt, by bringing back life into the building and maximizing its commercial benefits in correspondence to current market needs, whilst taking into consideration the building’s rich historical background.

I worked with a team of designers to generate a schematic design for the revitalization of the urban catalyst and to enhance its land value. I supervised the survey team in the documentation phase in which we used the Lecia P-40 scanner and delivered a full and detailed Revit model integrated with point clouds with all the required data, which served as an important tool for inaccessible spaces.

The design approach tackled parasite architecture, relying on noninvasive additions to preserve the building’s existing condition whilst implementing the proposal. The execution phase is currently running and the project is expected to launch before 2024.
