The project aims to give a new and larger theater to Naumburg. The site project is inside the perimeter of the ex-penitentiary and Royal Court long abandoned with the idea of a urban renewal. The R.C.P.Arts (Royal Court for the Performing Arts) wants to give two memorable public spaces to the city of Naumburg. The first one is a theater which is located underground, and the second one a public multi-functional space, which is located on the roof of the new theater building.
The concept of the slope allows the theater to act as a unique element that connects the old town with the contemporary urban developments in a harmonious way. In order to create an explicit connection with the city and its landmarks, the project can be accessed from two different points. The main access, which is located in the same axis coming from the historic door, and from a secondary access located in the back part of the project area, through an opening on the back building of the old penitentiary.
