The overall concept of this project is simplicity, respect for the antique with a touch of modernity.
For this apartment, located in an ancient palace, the rooms are proportioned considering their position, their importance, and the dimensions of the existing windows.
The living position is due to the fact that this is the main space, that also works as a hallway for the two bedrooms, and the kitchen corner position has been chosen for its proximity to the water drains.
The antique feeling floorings are the main ingredient for the style I chose, for which I changed the colors of the existing ones with brighter, more fun ones, in the blue spectrum.
The hallway and living are separated only by a passage, without a door, in the bearing wall, but the flooring is the same and without separations, to give the two spaces a sense of continuity.
The hallway also contains a built in closet, useful for coats but also for linen in case of the alternative distribution of bathroom 2, which will impede the second built in closet in the small hallway.
Other passages without a door are the one to the bathroom hallway, and to the small studio in front of the entrance, which if used as a closet, can be closed with a sliding door.
This space takes light form the single room, by means of a high opening window which I imagined made of steel, to give it an “industrial” feeling.
The other room’s flooring are separated on the doorsills, with a solid color grey marble, to accentuate the change of material.
Almost everything else is white, with touches of wood and black.
In the previous bathroom/kitchen area, I decided to go for two big bathrooms, one with a shower, and one with a bathtub, using the small hallway as a laundry space hidden by built in wardrobes.
This choice is due to the drain positions.
All doors and closet doors have an antique feeling. I suggest, where possible, the use of existing ones, painted in white.
