Description

The aim of this Contest was to design an angular bookcase with a medium-low budget. Because of that I decided to use an existing bookcase next to the red sofa and implement it into my design. I also used variety of products which are cheap, good quality and also available worldwide.

Because the living room is relatively small, i put the shelves and boxes above the sofa to gain space. I formed a bookcase that consist of opened and closed elements. In the corner , next to the sofa i put a chrome lamp that gives the luxury look to the living room and provides additional light option(because the lamp on the wall is removed to place shelf). On the wall left of the sofa (when looking to the balcony) I implemented a similar shaped bookcase as one on the wall above the sofa. The difference is that there is a set of mirrors under the bookcase which gives the living room great depth and it gives an impression of bigger space. The TV stand is formed of two opened elements in which cd's and dvd player can be placed. With a large cd shelf above it, it forms a small media area.

I also introduced two red ottomans matching the sofa color and material to offer more seating options when they are needed (arrivals of guests or relatives). The two ottomans extend the seating area while using very little space. The white carpet is also placed to form a relation to white elements of the bookcase and kitchen area.

The entire bookcase is formed of opened and closed elements to form an exciting combination of opened and closed space and provide room for books as well as for storage. The colors used are black and white in order to make connection to the already existing pieces of furniture (dining table, kitchen, shelf ) and provide a feeling of unified space.
