At first, I saw the existing pictures of the space, the first word that pops up from my head is "rejuvenation". I am trying to turn the space by giving it a fresher yet subtle look, more contemporary, more up-to-date and tech savvy.
When looking at the task, the constraint of the project is quite challenging whereas the space is kind of L-shaped and quite small. But somehow when I played around with the space, somehow the room has an ample space for a comfortable study area and a mini gym.
Firstly, I decided to placed the study area near the fireplace so that the end user could enjoy the warmth while working or studying. I managed to propose a proper yet practical study area. The workspace is sufficient yet comes with plenty of storage space.
An L-shaped table top makes use of the space efficiently while providing enough space for studying and computer use. The table can be used up to 3 people at one time. I also proposed a convertible whiteboard panel that can be drop down and become an extra worktop. A notice board (cork board) is a nice additional feature to the study table for quick note pins or picture posts.
I've chosen an ergonomic work chair that comes with a lumbar support because seating in the right way is a crucial practice to maintain a healthier posture and spine.
I proposed a Smart Assistant Gadget to assist the end user in many ways and also to control the lights and the smart TV by voice and connected to the PC meaning the space has practically turn smart and sync to each other. I placed the TV there for total viewpoint, both users at study and gym area can utilize the TV. The wireless speakers, keyboard and mouse make the study area uncluttered and wire-free, so it'll look clean and neat all the time.
A beverage centre is placed in the middle of the room to accommodate both areas.
The existing gym equipment is maintained and rearrange properly at the gym corner of the room. I add a professional weight scale to motivate the users to exercise more and record their achievements. I proposed a workbench that comes with a storage for shoes, gym items etc. I also add some major feature to the gym area which is the wall mirror. This is not only to use as a workout mirror but also to make the small space looks bigger and since it is near the window, it also helps to reflect more natural light into the space.
As for colours, I go with monochrome colours and wood tones and textures, and also a dash of 'Arabesque Red' as a star colour to blend in with the existing marble slabs colour. And for lights, all downlights to be changed to smart LEDs, to be controlled by voice and of course save on electricity usage, and for the desk area, I use Ambient Lights for mood lighting.
I hope you like my proposal, and I think your child will love the design, the space shall look fresher, feels new, very practical and up to date with the current tech but yet, still very subtle in a way.
