I enjoyed working on your little library, and I hope I've managed to create a unique and cozy environment for you and your family.
In the brief, you mentioned you need a home library, not only for you but a space that would be special for younger members of your family too. Besides the library, you expressed a need for a bed in this space.
My aim was to create a space that would have a special character that is enjoyable for everyday use but also for children to visit and have a unique experience while discovering the world of books.
The space is light and airy in colors and use of materials; natural wood tones, terrazzo and different shades of light pastel colors.
To make the space special I've avoided the typical bookshelf concept and instead created a false wall with niches and built-in bookshelves. The shapes of the niches and chosen furniture aim to create a dynamic but soft environment.
For the seating arrangement there are several optiones in the space;
- a small frame by the window with lots of natural light
- a platform on a different level from the original floor with a step that can be used as a seat with cushions
- a lounge chair in the corner with a floor lamp for a cozy atmosphere in the evenings
The bed for the children or other guests is hidden underneath the platform and can be pulled out as a drawer into the space. The bed has a central position in the room surrounded by books and arches that form a cloud like atmosphere while laying in bed.
As mentioned earlier the shelves are arranged inside arches and this gives you the freedom to arrange the books into different categories and groups. Besides the open shelves there are two arches on two sides of the window that are enclosed and can be used for extra storage or paper archives that do not necessarily need to be visible and at reach at all times.
