We created a sheltered and cozy space, filled with natural colors, materials and plants. Terrace is divided in two zones - relaxation zone and BBQ/dining zone, without barriers between them, which gives many possibilities for rearranging hammocks.
Relaxation zone
The sheltered effect is achieved with light fence (wood imitation) and climbing plants that make this space peaceful, private and relaxing. Two large hammocks are located in front of the door window. They can be easily rearranged, thanks to the columns and supporting beams.
As requested, there is a large (3m x 3m), cozy, built-in sofa with rounded edges. Sofa is made in concrete – cheap and easy to make, with pillows on top for easy removal in case of a heavy rain. Pillows are in light grey color that repels heat, but does not get dirty easily. Sofa provides enough room for 7 people, and in case of a larger gathering, there is enough place for 2 more persons (2 chairs from the table can be used for that).
The relaxation zone is covered with canopy of thin logs which give the natural feel, on top of which is a transparent PVC material – waterproof, affordable, yet durable.
BBQ/dining zone
In this zone there is a soft-edged dining table and bench with cement top – they are durable and do not need to be moved during rain. Narrow side of the table is facing the barbeque for easier access. With very little and cheap modifications of the pipes, sink is moved next to the barbeque. Underneath it, there is a closed storage area where all the necessary equipment can be placed, making the terrace look clean. This makes it a nice and convenient food preparation area – sink with water, counter top and a barbeque in one place.
Instead of water from the roof splashing to the original sink (please take a look at your photo number 6 on the CoContest profile), there is now a hidden gutter. This cheap and practical modification connects roof with the existing drain.
Masonry planters are placed around the terrace for more privacy. Under the plants (please look at section 1-1), there is a cleverly hidden drain channel. All the water from the terrace and plants goes into the draining channel and finally into the gutter.
If desired, hose with wholes for watering the plants can be placed inside the masonry planters for easier watering, without worrying about draining the plants.
The whole terrace is covered with wood imitation tiles, which have matte finishing in order to look more like wood. Also, there are romantic lights placed around the terrace (please look at the lighting scheme). There is also a light above the sofa, which gives it a living room feeling.
