Description

The primary objective of the project is to transform an existing one-bedroom apartment into a comfortable living space for two individuals, without making any structural modifications. However, it is essential to incorporate a separate sleeping area for frequent guests, while ensuring the privacy of the residents during the guests' stay at night. Additionally, maximizing storage spaces and integrating existing antique furniture pieces are additional project requirements. The main focus is to provide a practical and cost-effective solution that functions as a comfortable living space with a convertible layout.

To enhance privacy for both residents and guests, we introduced operable dividing screens with a modern touch of timber and glass. These screens completely separate the visibility toward the master bed while allowing natural lighting through glass panels positioned at the top and bottom of each screen. The screens can be closed when guests are present, creating a private space for them, and opened during their absence, allowing residents to utilize the entire space.

The existing kitchen was renovated using IKEA modular units, which were already present in the apartment. Additional units were purchased while considering the project budget, allowing clients to save money for other purposes. To minimize noise and provide more space for clothing drying, a floor-to-ceiling closet was introduced to cover the washing machine. Once closed, the closet keeps the machine hidden from sight.

A vertical timber screen was implemented to separate the sleeping area from the dining space. This screen also doubles as a convertible work desk, ideal for those working from home. When not in use, the desk can be packed away to maximize visual space.

The main color scheme revolves around white and various timber textures, complementing the existing timber furniture. Vibrant colors such as blue and green are minimized to avoid a cramped feeling due to space constraints. To create a more relaxed atmosphere, the incorporation of indoor plants throughout the space is encouraged. Additionally, a green wall on the balcony sidewall adds a touch of nature and further enhances the sense of relaxation.
