Description

The project proposal focuses on the reconfiguration of an existing apartment to achieve a functional and operational space that can host a kitchen, a living room, a sleeping area, a bathroom and storage space for two people.

The living room represents the central space of the apartment and incorporates the sleeping area. To maximize the usable space, the sleeping area will be divided by a light partition with glass from the living area. The bed will be positioned facing the entrance wall and the space on top of the bed will be used for storage through the insertion of suspended cabinets. The bedroom space can be completely enclosed by adding a curtain for complete privacy. The living area consists of a convertible sofa-bed, which will shift its position facing the window area and adjoining the partition bedroom wall. The existing chest of drawers will move towards the window area as well, facing the couch and integrating the TV. The Moroccan table will be used as a coffee table and the secretary desk will shift its position to accommodate an individual desk with a sliding extension that can maximize the working surface if needed.

The design of the kitchen area focuses on making use of the existing furniture and keeping intact the existing electronic appliances. The washing machine will be integrated into a full-height cabinet next to the sink area for soundproofing and aesthetic purposes. The dishwasher will be integrated into a customized kitchen cabinet also for soundproofing and aesthetic purposes. The oven and suspended cabinets will maintain their position and design. The fridge will shift towards the oven area and will be integrated into a full-height cabinet with a storage area on top. The existing Ikea cabinets will be placed next to the fridge to maximize the usable area of the dining space. The table and chairs will keep their position close to the balcony windows. The bathroom and existing storage areas will not be remodeled.

Given the small footprint of the apartment, the project proposal seeks to utilize all existing furniture and minimize the addition of new ones. The kitchen represents the area with the highest amount of interventions in order to integrate all the client's requests.

The final proposal looks at an efficient method of reconfiguration, both in terms of functionality and costs.
