Description

The main goal of this project is to satisfy the needs of this four member family by creating a spacious and bright everyday room, while every member of the family might be able keeping his own privacy. Another basic issue to be solved is the lack of storage room due to expanding needs.
As a result, for the better exploitation of the space, kitchen and dining area are sharing the same space with the living room (day zone), while there is a distinct separation of the bedroom's area (night zone). The dividing zone is the movement area, where alongside the additional storage area is placed.
In order to create those spaces and simultaneoulsy to keep the main structure intact, it was chosen to just create small necessary openings on the main central thick and thin wall, as it is shown on the construction works diagram. The concept follows the idea of changing the place of the kitchen, incorporate it with the living room area and creating two new bathrooms -one with a laundry room, three seperate bedrooms and additional storage space, wherever that was possible. The new partitions/walls could easily be constructed of plasterboard. We also suggest the hallway having the same free height (sections AA & BB) all the way long as the mezzanine and therefore, a ceiling of plasterboard to be constructed, where spotlights can be used.
The style of the interior should be white and minimal, while being cozy, keeping some of the old elements of the apartment as they are such as the design of the ceiling, the old inside doors, etc. The proposed materials are light wood, on floors and on some furniture combined with grey concrete alongside the hall entrance and the hallway, ceramic coloured or black/white tiles in bathrooms and white shades on walls and on the kitchen/living room furniture.
