Description

Design intent for this apartment was to create a spacious, bright and comfortable home that would emphasize living/dining area as an essential one for family life without compromising on functionality of private areas.

Apartments spacious entrance leads to the open plan living/dining area with kitchen, overlooking greenery and private villa. This area is designed to have as much sunlight as possible, so in addition to 2 big balcony sliding doors on the north there it was crucial to bring in light from 2 big windows on the east, enabling sunlight during all day. Furniture in this area is distributed along the horizontal axis, making it the focal point of all daily activities. This way the living/dining room is seen as one coherent space with overview of the whole area, easy traffic flow and unconstrained access to the both balcony entrances.

In option 1 dining room and living room are visually separated with a glass partition wall with painting on side of dining table and kitchen and TV on side of living room. Living room is facing the rest of this area in order to make the space feel bigger and brighter, seeing dining room and kitchen appearing in the distance. In addition, designing a ceiling with different finish and height (dashed line) that stretches from kitchen to living room, creates a unique signature that unites these three spaces while adding a new pillar across the existing one in the dining room frames it and makes a balance in this big open space.

In option 2, the entrance to the kitchen and dining room is highlighted with glass partition walls on both sides of existing pillars. Living/dining area is treated as one continuous space with a living room facing the wall to the east, with easy traffic flow and unconstrained access to the both balcony entrances.

Private area consists of three bedrooms accessible from the main and secondary hallway. Master bedroom is located on the east side of the apartment, having its own bathroom, while two kids bedrooms are located across the hall, on the west side via a small hallway. There are main bathroom and laundry located behind the kitchen. Both bathrooms, laundry and kitchen are designed and grouped to be near existing water and sanitation infrastructure. In option 2 the main bathroom is expanded to have a bathtub in addition to shower.

Designing this apartment to be functional with two separate zones (common and private) that work well together and with big open space expanding to the balcony and beautiful view, gives the opportunity for young and growing family to enjoy their time together in a bright, airy and welcoming home.
