Project description

This design transforms the backyard into a lush, welcoming oasis where planting, privacy, and comfortable outdoor living come together as a cohesive experience. The layout softens the existing concrete deck, enhances the sunken garden, and creates a seamless flow between the pool, seating area, and garden paths. A curving walkway guides visitors through layers of native and pollinator-friendly plants, adding movement, texture, and seasonal color throughout the garden. Existing trees—such as the Gleditsia, pear, and bay laurel—are preserved and thoughtfully integrated, while new shrubs and understory plantings enrich the ecological value of the space. The proposed Dogwood replaces the failing maple and improves privacy along the fence line. Two modern pergola structures provide wind-safe, functional shade over the seating and BBQ areas, creating comfortable zones for dining and relaxation. A fire feature, connected to the existing gas line, serves as a warm focal point beside the main seating area. Along the deck edges, dense planting softens level transitions and visually ties the upper terrace to the sunken garden. In the first design option, a dedicated trampoline area is incorporated to create an active, playful zone for families, fully integrated into the landscape. The second design option removes the trampoline, allowing for a more open, flexible garden layout. Overall, this design offers a harmonious balance of nature and structure—vibrant, intimate, and deeply supportive of pollinators—while giving the client a comfortable and adaptable outdoor space to enjoy year-round.
