We live in three in this apartment that we have bought ten years ago and we have decided to make it more functional and welcoming. The apartment is warm and bright, built on two floors, (which are the last floors of the building), with an internal staircase.
The first floor is made of a living room, a bathroom (wc, bidet, a sink with a mirror and a shower), a room that is used as a study, and a long and narrow kitchen (that we don’t intend to change). The second floor, (which has its own independent entrance door that is rarely used) is very bright, and is made of a hallway, (that is reached via the internal staircase), two bedrooms (a large one for our daughter and our double bedroom) and a large bathroom.
We often have guests for dinner and people who sleep over. That’s why the sofa bed for two should stay.
The small room next to the bathroom on the first floor is used as a study.
Our furniture style is classic and we would want to keep, enhance or optimize. In the renovation process we can get rid of some of the pieces.
We consider the options of custom-made furniture and litle operations on the wall. But we’d like to avoid structural changes in the walls.
If it shouldn’t cost a lot of money and time, we could change the parquet too.
1. We need containers for different objects in the first floor and closets and drawers for clothes on the second floor.
2. The current entrance and hallway looks very bland. Interesting ideas to bring it to life?
3. We’re looking for a more functional arrangement for the living area, while keeping the table on the side of outwards wall to keep the space for opening it (2 mt long when open + the seats). We need wall storage solutions for fancy dishware and other objects.
4. Where should the screen go? We can consider small home theatre solutions too.
5. The current staircase is a little old. How can we substitute it? Any solutions for the understair cupboard? Should we keep the mirror on the wall that makes the living room look larger?
6. The study needs custom-made bookshelves and a wardrobe/closet to hang coats inside. We also need a large desk.
7. How to put to best use the hallway on the second floor? We want to keep the built-in closet and another closet in that space.
8. We’re looking for solutions for the windows on the second floor. We can change them all together since we have humidity and seepage problems when it rains.
9. Our daughter’s bedroom (on the second floor, on the left of the staircase) should be completely renovated. We need a decent library and a large desk for a university student. Would a queen bed fit? The drawers you can see in the photos should go. She would need a large wardrobe.
10. Ideas for the master bedroom: (on the second floor, on the right of the entrance). We have a custom-made closet that we want to keep. We have a large space under the windows. At the moment the air conditioner is exactly in front of the bed, which is a problem when sleeping.
11. Could the balcony on the on the outside, in an L shape, help in the solutions of saving energy? We have an independent heating system.
