Hi there!
Thank you very much for reading this brief. We look forward to seeing your designs!
We are 30 female & 31 year old male couple, living with 2 cats. No children for the moment. We are a digital project manager and a graphic designer.
Our hobbies are graphic design, gardening, photography, writing, reading.
We just bought a flat built in 1995 and located on the ground floor of a small building in London. The JPG was given to us by the seller and we uploaded it just as a reference: the official plan to consider should be the PDF one, where we took all measurements of room sizes without considering the walls (internal walls are 10cm wide)
The rooms are quite small so we would like ideas to have a comfortable and functional house.
The style we are looking at is the one of the attached reference images (natural materials, light tones, get more light as possible, the environment should be very cozy).
The apartment has been recently renovated so we’d avoid substantial changes to the spaces with the exception of the hall: we would keep the same walls (including white colour), the same floor (we are thinking about removing the carpet from the bedrooms and replace it with a wooden floor) etc.
The light is very important to us and we would like a nice bright house, so if you could also indicate where to place the lamps (we thought a light with adjustable intensity in the living room) it would be great. Even the furniture should take into account this factor.
Since the apartment is small we would need to have some space in which to keep our things, for example with drawers under the bed.
We already have some of the furniture for the home:
– The table 160x80cm, an old wooden table entirely repainted in white
– 6 chairs http://www.italiacontract.com/it/sedie/metallo/s319.aspx
– A sofa 185x95cm like this http://www.respace.it/images/upload/800600_6668924192009121917294_mercurio_intero.jpg but reddish-burgundy
– A white IKEA bookcase http://www.ikea.com/it/it/catalog/products/80275887/ that you can eventually ignore
Please find below a list of the rooms with our requests (ceilings are 236 cm tall):
– Hall (pic 2): entering the house there is a long, narrow hallway that reaches the hall which gives access to all rooms. Hallway and hall are dark, illuminated only by artificial light: we would like to make them brighter or with glass doors in the other rooms or lowering the wall of the kitchen (we have to check the feasibility) and creating a plan to use from the kitchen as a peninsula-like table, and from the hallway as shoe rack. Because the hall is quite large we would like to exploit it better, perhaps by putting here a dining table? The problem is that the bathroom door opens on this very room. The hall also has a 3-door closet: the smaller part is entirely occupied by the water heater, the larger part (2 doors) would be the service space of the house (the previous tenants had positioned a desk that you can see in picture 6, we would put shelves, vacuum cleaner, etc.)
– Living room (pic 1): this is the room where we would like you to put more attention as it would be the main room of the house. It’s illuminated by a large glass door that opens onto the south-facing garden (not included in the contest). The two main functions of this room would be relax area (sofa, TV) and dining table (if not placed in the hall). Since we love to have guests, the two areas should not be too divided so that if there are many people, the people sitting on the sofa and the table can chat without difficulties. In the relax area we would like to put a rug and a sofa with a pouf. Cushions on the floor are also welcome to make this space more welcoming and possibly to sit there with friends. As you can see from the reference pictures we like libraries and we have some books, so in this room or elsewhere we should provide some space. We both work with the computer so if there is some space left, we would like a small corner to use the laptop, printer, etc. Plugs are marked in the PDF plan with little squares: the one on the top right corner of the living room, a bit bigger than the others, is the antenna plug
– Kitchen (pic 5): The kitchen is already furnished (as in the photo, apart from the table that was removed), so apart from the possibility of lowering the wall to turn it into a divider half wall, there aren’t many things to add. Maybe just a small table, but this room does not require much attention.
– Bathroom: no changes and no requests for this room, you can ignore it
– Master Bedroom (pic 3): it is the one next to the living room. We would like to put a bed of decent size (at least 160cm), a wardrobe, a chest of drawers all along the window wall on which we could put pillows to sit on. Above the bed we’d like to put a large frame with a sea scene. Unfortunately the heater, indicated on the colour map, is not in the ideal position
– Small bedroom (pic 4): waiting to turn it in the children room, for the moment we would like to turn it into a guest room with a 140cm bed. Unfortunately this room has a ledge in the back wall that prevents putting a bigger bed.
We would love to have some distinctive element in the various rooms, such as an element of Scandinavian design (which can be a lamp or a chair)
Thank you so much for reading all of this! We can’t wait to see your designs! Please let us know if you have any questions or need any help or clarification.
