This project was designed with an intent to provide a comfortable, efficient, and modern house within the structure of the 150-year-old house.
The Garage has been expanded to fit 2 large cars and 2 motorbikes. A private entrance to the house has been maintained in addition to the shared staircase entrance with the rented apartments.
The first floor caters to a master bedroom and another bedroom.
The access to the Attic floor has been provided by a private internal staircase and a private lift. A living space, Kitchen & Dining, an extra bedroom/ storeroom, a toilet, and a terrace have been provided on the Attic floor. The roof height of the Attic has been raised to create a bright, airy, and active essence in the most-used-floor of the house.
The elevations have respected the architectural profile of the surrounding neighbourhood while also leaning towards contemporary style.
The arches hiding in the basement have been exposed to the North elevation by replacing the loadbearing North wall with glass fenestrations that take the shape of the arches. Moreover, the staircase connecting the garage floor with the basement has been placed such that it doesn’t interrupt the elevation of the arches.
In the South Elevation, 2 garage entrances are provided (1 old, 1 new) instead of 1 massive garage door, intentionally, to maintain the scale of the elevation elements with respect to the neighbourhood.
Overall, the efficient space usage, the modern yet traditional essence and elevations, carefully organised degrees of privacy are the salient features of this design while meeting all of your preferences mentioned in the brief and the message board
