Home for family of four with each space open to courtyard. It is proposed to demolish the existing house completely. House is consisting of three distinguished spaces connected by courtyards and entrance gallery. As you enter from the east, south is dedicated for public space such as living and dining and north to private spaces such as bedrooms and study. Bedroom spaces are two stories to accommodate privacy for the master bedroom at upper level. There is addition roof top garden at the upper level extending the full length of the entry gallery at ground level.
This home is design with in the limitations of internal square are of 270 Sq.m, as well as regulations of roof heights, roof angles, boundary distances, and use of external material. Additionally the structure of the house is intentionally kept to simple form of rc column and beam structure and with wood roof structure.
As the land may extend west and require to open the home to west and south, the home located parallel to the west boundary. This H-shaped home has a centre courtyard open to west with proposed pool. Main living room and master bedroom is open to west views. Additionally all the bedrooms (including the Annex) has a ‘staggered’ effect in order to provide framed uninterrupted views to the west. Kitchen is open to south and east side courtyard to bring in sunlight, including proposed roof lights. BBQ and part living room is also open to south and its large garden space. With double barrier vegetation the bedroom has limited views to the north from strip windows. Thus achieving symbolically represent a "protection" from the outside on the north side and partly on the east sides and of "opening" on the south and west side.
Courtyard and garden are proposed with limited vegetation and turfed ground. Thick vegetation is proposed along the boundary to obtain privacy. Additionally standalone feature brick walls are proposed around the garden to sub-diving and encourage privacy.
Use of fixed glass and sliding doors are a feature in the home. Fixed glass are frameless double glass with only framed used for door openings. Additionally most spaces consist of overhang outdoor spaces to spill in during summer and good weather. Solar diagrams spring, summer and winter solstices are considered and accounted when creating the building shape, courtyards and overhangs. Thus providing sun during the winter and shade during the summer. The hart of the home is its courtyards where the family would be bound by its activities around it.
