The biggest challenge with this project is the poor number of windows which is a huge constraint for the layout of the apartment. I decided to provide four different solutions in order to give the client the possibility to make a choice based on his family habits and desires.
All the solutions had to face the problem windows' lack, especially for what concerns the longer and narrower space where I decided to put the kitchen/guest room. In order to provide windows in all the main rooms of the apartment, I had to demolish part of the load bearing walls to create a passage to link the two sides of the house. And for the same reason I decided to use industrial glass walls here and there, to let the natural light in.
The first and second proposal both provide an entry way with a wardrobe for family and guests coats and a guest bathroom which is easily reachable from the living and dining room. The kitchen has two different layouts: Option 1 has a kitchen that can be closed and is separated from the hallway with an industrial glass wall. This way the kitchen can be closed but the natural light can reach the hallway and provide a nice atmosphere. The second option provide an open "walk through" kitchen with appliances on the left side of the hallway, and a separate spot for the sink which usually is the "messiest" area of the kitchen and this way can be hidden easily. For what concerns the sleeping area, I always tried to keep it separate from the living area, and I provided an option between the two proposals: In option number 1 there's the possibility to enter the master bathroom also directly from the walk in closet. In option number 2 there's a bigger 2 sinks bathroom top.
Speaking about option number 3 and 4, I tried to provide an office and storage space next to the entry way, and moved the guest bathroom in the area between the living and the sleeping area. I also proposed a double face fireplace, trying to connect better the studio and the living room and to let natural light into the studio. Solution number three provides a dining area next to the living room. The dining area could be closed thanks to the industrial glass wall and the sliding glass door, providing good natural light. The same industrial glass wall continues to give the possibility to close up the kitchen without stopping the natural light.
In option number four, I inverted the position of the dining room and the kitchen, this way the kitchen could be bigger than the one in option 3, has natural light entering from the glass wall, and can as well be closed if needed.
For all four options, I provided two good sized bedrooms with private bathroom for the daughters, and a huge master suite with private bathroom and walk in closet for mom and dad. The second apartment's entrance could be kept, closed with a security door and hidden from the bedroom using a wooden boiserie.
In order to help the natural light to enter the apartment, where possible I decided to use a floor to ceiling glass that allows the light to reach the rooms without windows and the hallways.
I hope the client will appreciate my proposals, I tried to find answers to all his desires.

La sfida principale per questo progetto è la presenza di poche finestre che risulta essere un vincolo per il layout dell'appartamento. Ho deciso di proporre quattro diverse soluzioni per poter permettere al cliente di effettuare una scelta in base alle abitudini famigliari e ai loro desideri.
Tutte le soluzioni devono risolvere il problema della mancanza di finestre, specialmente per quanto riguarda la zona più lunga e stretta in cui ho deciso di posizionare la cucina e la stanza degli ospiti. Per garantire la presenza di finestre negli ambienti principali, ho dovuto demolire in alcuni punti i muri portanti per creare un passaggio per collegare le due ali della casa. E per la stessa ragione ho deciso di usare delle pareti industriali vetrate in diversi ambienti, per permettere l'ingresso della luce naturale.
Le prime due proposte presentano un ingresso con un guardaroba per i soprabiti della famiglia e degli ospiti, e un bagno ospiti che è facilmente raggiungibile dal soggiorno e dalla sala da pranzo. La cucina invece ha due differenti layout: L'opzione 1 presenta una cucina che può essere chiusa e separata dal corridoio con una parete vetrata e porta scorrevole di accesso. In questo modo la cucina può essere chiusa ma la luce naturale raggiunge il corridoio garantendo un'atmosfera luminosa e "aperta". La seconda opzione invece prevede una cucina passante con elettrodomestici sul lato di sinistra rispetto al disimpegno. e una zona separata per il lavandino e la lavastoviglie, zona che è solitamente più disordinata e che può essere totalmente nascosta dalla vista. Per quanto riguarda la zona notte, ho sempre cercato di garantire sia sempre distinta dalla zona giorno, e propongo due alternative: Nella ipotesi 1 c'è la possibilità di entrare nel bagno padronale direttamente dal guardaroba. Nella soluzione numero 2 invece ho lasciato più agio al top con doppio lavandino.
Per quanto riguarda le ipotesi 3 e 4, ho pensato di proporre un ingresso con armadio guardaroba e uno studio con camino bifacciale per collegare maggiormente il soggiorno e lo studio e fare entrare luce naturale nello studio.
La soluzione numero 3 prevede una sala da pranzo di fianco al soggiorno. La sala da pranzo può essere chiusa grazie alla presenza di una parete industriale vetrata che garantisce una buona illuminazione naturale. La stessa parete vetrata continua per la cucina, che può quindi essere chiusa mantenendo comunque la possibilità di luce naturale diretta.
Nell'opzione numero 4, ho invertito la posizione di sala da pranzo e cucina. In questo modo la cucina risulta un po' più grande rispetto alla soluzione 3, ed è illuminata da luce naturale grazie all'uso della parete industriale vetrata che ne permette la chiusura.
Per tutte e 4 le soluzioni ho proposto due camere da letto di buone dimensioni, con bagno privato, per le due figlie, e un'enorme suite padronale con bagno privato e guardaroba per i genitori. L'ingresso del secondo appartamento ( a destra ) può essere mantenuto con l'inserimento di una porta di sicurezza e l'aggiunta di una boiserie in legno che ne celi l'esistenza dall'interno della camera da letto.
Per aiutare la diffusione della luce naturale nell'appartamento, dove possibile ho inserito dei "tagli luce" vetrati che permettono alla luce di filtrare, ad esempio fra camera e bagno di una delle due figlie ( bagno cieco ) e per il bagno padronale.
Oppure per la camera ospiti che permette alla luce di raggiungere il corridoio altrimenti buio.
Spero il cliente possa apprezzare le mie proposte, ho cercato di rispondere a tutte le richieste.
