Description

The aim of this project is to maximize the use of space of a studio apartment in Milan in order to achieve an ambitious program. The presence of a single small window and therefore limited amounts of natural light adds complexity to this task. The proposed layout is divided in two main areas: the living area facing the street and services to the opposite side. The kitchen and bathroom areas have been redesigned but the main layouts of the two spaces have been respected. We believe that the current kitchen and WC are in the right location and the use of the existing pipes and drainage will help to save money that can be redirected towards the Clei systems and bespoke joinery solutions throughout the house. An extended dividing wall with two pocket doors clarifies the use of each space.During the day the client can work at his/her desk, eat by the table or just relax on the sofa. Thanks to the use of two Clei transformable solutions the living area becomes a spacious bedroom by night and can host up to two guests. To the sides of the Clei foldable bed there is an abundance of tall storage for hanging items. On the other side of the room the joinery has been designed to host drawers and shelves which are behind hinged doors. These units can accommodate various household items, from clothing and shoes to media. Due to the client's request the built in fridge and washing machine locations can be switched to accommodate a full height fridge. The existing beams have been retained and painted white to help the space feel larger. The existing fireplace has been removed to accommodate the foldable bed/shelves/table solution.
