We are going to remodel a kitchen in a 1905 Chicago Greystone. As you can see by the pictures the kitchen is small an poorly laid out. In addition the refrigerator is being kept in the butlers pantry, which we do not want in our remodel. We currently have white appliances in standard sizes (30″ range, 30″ micro/hood, 24″ dishwasher and 28″ refrigerator). As you can also see the low windows and exposed brick make it a challenge to install cabinets. We are considering raising the windows so that we can have a continuous row of cabinetry. We are also considering padding out the wall with the exposed brick to make installing a long row of cabinetry easier. We are looking for a updated and functional design that would not look out of place in a building of this age or style. We are also trying to keep costs down so we are looking at stock cabinetry sizes, Ikea for example. We are also considering quartz counter tops. We would consider purchasing new appliances in stainless steel for it fits the design. It is important that the kitchen be functional as the owner likes to cook. The kitchen is on the first floor so if necessary things like the water and gas lines could be moved but we are trying to avoid those costs. Finally, the exterior is brick so moving things like doors and windows is very expensive and we are trying to avoid that also. I have attached a picture of the owners current kitchen which they like very much. Finally, I have also attached a picture of the exterior so you can understand the type of building the kitchen will be in.
