The house is located in an old palace (1935) in the center of the beautiful city of Cagliari, in Sardinia. It is an apartment with 2 big rooms, a small kitchen and a narrow and long bathroom. It is at the first floor. The perimeter of the apartment is very irregular, following the 2 streets that delimitate the area: they are not orthogonal, so the shape of the flat is quite trapezoidal. There is a small kitchen as well: I would like to transform the kitchen in a bedroom, and that the bedroom with the two windows becomes a kitchen with living room. We can also change the wall of the bathroom, to make it bigger. In the bathroom I need to put a washing machine, or better a washing/dryer machine. The height of the flat is 3,50 meter, so I would like to have an open mezzanine in one or in both of the two main rooms. I love mezzanines made on wood. The walls are quite deep: at least 50 cm, so it would be possible to take same space from them to create cabinets or libraries or… I love the windows in the house: they are on wood, with shutters inside. The doors also are very nice: with double-leaf.
My favorite part of the apartment is probably the floor. The two main rooms have old tails, with floreal drawings. They have a quite strong personality, that’s why I would like to keep a modern/minimalist style on the forniture, also because of the not straight angles. I can ask a carpenter to make cabinets or furnitures (for example in the kitchen).
It would be super great to get another bathroom in this bedroom.
We made made some research on the walls and in the floor. We discovered that the thin walls are made by sardinian old bricks (a bit yellows), the big walls are made by very hard and friable “Pietra da Cantone”, even more yellow. Both of them are nice to see, and the second it’s also very easy to work with. Maybe some of the walls in the leaving area can be left with visible bricks or stones, without plaster? The thickness of the screed is about 10 cm, that could be good for the pipes.
