Concept:
Calculus Designing – The design simply follows the nature of integration and differentiation following specific pattern and harmony, resulting into a progressive design. The positive & negative massing nature of the design creates balance as well as interest into both the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Strategies:
1. While designing the interior and the terrace, the main objective was of “No demolition and least alteration”, so as to counter the design problem economically without loosening the basic strength of the structure.
2. A combination of Lacunas (negative massing) and Accretions (positive massing) has been used for both, the terrace garden and the interior ceilings. The main objective is to create an ambience space with the combination design principles and material variants.
3. The Terrace is designed such as to create two different spaces providing different levels of intimacy, the grid pattern of the battens gives the space a degree of enclosure along with being open to sky, as well as enhancing the aesthetical purpose of the complete structure. On the other hand the deck is designed elevated from the datum providing another level and enclosure. The roof of the deck is having a bold triangular perforation with emphasise of diffused light, highlighting the void.
4.The false ceiling in living area is suspended Armstrong ceiling with diffusers on the sides, an alternative for the Armstrong ceiling could be wood as well depending on the feasibility and labour skill. The interior is having Italian marble of beige or cream colour with brown/maroon firing, and vitrified tiles in the washroom area, both locally available materials reducing the cost of designing.
5. At terrace Zone, Finishes for the deck, battens & terrace flooring has been done with Oak wood of different colors like grey, golden brown & dark brown, whereas client may use wooden textured tiles for cost savings.
