Ground Floor Remodel
We are looking to convert the garage of this detached property into living space, and this is the ideal time to consider a remodel of the ground floor.
Part of the ground floor was recently updated, and the style is as we like. However, we are happy to reconfigure walls, and completely redo all these rooms for a great design. The Kitchen and under-stairs toilet are very dated and will be completely replaced. Beware the garage and understairs toilet are a “step down” from the ground floor of the house.
We like entertaining, and enjoy the current layout with three adjoining rooms running the length of the house. We would consider opening up into the current kitchen space as well, but we do not want a fully open plan area, as we like to ‘hide the mess’ in the kitchen a bit. (We also have folding doors to “hide the back room” if we have unexpected visitors!)
The kitchen must remain fairly large with ample storage space, and two full height fridge/freezers (Or an american style fridge freezer) and two ovens. We would also like a modern drinks/bar area, and wine storage. The wine storage could be separate from the drinks area, e.g. in the dining room. The bar area could be the natural flow from the entertaining space into the kitchen?
With the additional square footage we gain from the conversion, we are hoping to add a dog/mud/shoe/utility/coat room, with access from the side of the house. We’d like a small ‘dog shower’ in there, but could equally just have an exterior tap to wash the dogs after a muddy walk. We are also hoping for a little extra space which could be used perhaps as an office, or childs playroom, but this is a secondary consideration. There is, however, a baby on the way so some consideration of that is essential.
We are almost finished modernising the garden, and would strongly consider replacing the current kitchen side door with a second set of rear doors to the garden, for easy access to the kitchen when entertaining in the garden.
We would prefer to keep the majority of the furniture in the rooms you see with wood floors, but would consider replacement for an excellent design. Measurements can be provided on request.
We also enjoy watching films, and the TV should remain flat on a wall, not placed in a corner.
I have started a pinterest collection, but I’m not completely sure what I’m doing with it. It’s just a random collection of things that I quite liked so don’t be beholden to it.
