Description

The design of the house and garden is based on open spaces and flexibility as well as the Mediterranean touch. The stair itself is a part of the house. Its centered position offers a good way of compartimentation and usage of lighting. It creates a nice entrance view and can be separated or not from the upper level through a door if necessary. The attic is connected by the same staircase while for the cellar a smaller one was proposed. The space beneath the main staircase is also used wisely. The initial openings are almost fully used. The kitchen is near the entrance in such a way that groceries can be easily put away. The kitchen and dining are themselves a living area although they can be separated. They are oriented towards the pool creating a nice view when dining or cooking. The pool is a little retreated from the street and in a more quiet place of the garden, close to an outdoor bathroom that can be accessed and used for pool parties or guests.
The closeness of the pool area and kitchen can come in hand. A small outdoor dining area has been envisioned in the back of the house - like a small quiet place between the trees. Another dining area can be on the front porch which is also covered. The kitchen is essentially between them and can serve both. The old entrance has been covered but the fact that in order to create a smooth path from car driveway to the house a lot of earth has to be added, created an interesting idea. The idea was to create a sunken firepit area - thus needing less earth for coverage and creating a usable and interesting garden space for nice evenings. All rooms are well oriented and the space can be used in multiple ways.
