We recently bought a new house and would like to redesign the interiors. Our plan is to start with the Living Area (this contest) and then work on the other areas (may be with the winning designer)
What we like about the Living Area
+ relatively large living room with large windows / door overlooking the deck and backyard (its green and awesome in summer);
+ skylights in the ceiling
What we don’t like
– the formal dining room is a separate room, and we don’t make good use of that space. We would like to convert that room to a sitting area. Remove / reduce the wall between dining and living room and convert the living/dining room into one large area with some sitting in the area which is the current dining room. We have moved the dining table in the living room (open to considering other options as well).
– Fireplace mantle and the built-in look outdated
– the transition piece (white marble) between the entry foyer and living room looks out of place. A better transition would be good.
We would like to retain the Dining Table and the small side table. we are indifferent toward the large coffee table (based on design ideas we can keep or remove it)
The rest of the Furniture can be changed.
The fire place has to be redesigned…and the TV can be moved above the fireplace. we are okay to consider ideas where there is no TV in the living room
We would like a furniture piece in the entry area which has space for shoes, sitting to wear shoes, coats rack etc for the foyer area.
We see the living area as a space where we spend most of our free time, entertain guests.
Would prefer more contemporary design ideas as oppose to traditional living room ideas.
