Hi dear client,
I've been working on your New York City apartment design.
The first hypothesis was to create two different areas in the actual girls bedroom but because of the window position it's not working this idea. Also I've been thinking about keeping them together but if they're now 8 and 11 years old, maybe soon they will need some space for studying, doing homework and also some independence on their own private rooms.
In consequence, the main change I suggest is to create another bedroom for on of your daughters. I know that you strongly prefer not to transform the red chair area in the living into a bedroom because you love having two areas and also the airy feeling of the space.
My idea is a little bit risky but, if you like it, your apartment will still have an airy feel and a loft look but also will win in the utilization of the space.
I have read that you suggested the possibility of doing a buit-in bookcase in the living, so when I designed this proposal I was thinking so much about this bookcase. I decided to create a bedroom next to the master bedroom. That new wall I construct also keeps the buit-in huge bookcase for the living area. Because of the reduced dimensions of this new bedroom, I believe that the better option is to keep it as clean of furniture as possible. I switched one of the master bedroom wardrobes to serve this bedroom. The bed is the one you already have from the old girls bedroom and there's also a desk, some shelves and free space for playing.
The master bedroom has lost now one of the main wardrobes. And I have noticed in the pictures that you need more space in your bedroom so the point is to put two new wardrobes in both sides of the king size bed and also move the bathroom door. In front of the bed it0s now possible to have a TV or just some shelving and a mirror, as you wish. The master bedroom looks now bigger and I have also added a relax area with two armchairs. It's nice having some spaces for just chat and as I have seen in the actual configuration of your apartment, this king of areas are fitting well in your family lifestyle.
Well, we are speaking about chatting areas and the main question is now: what happens with the lovely red chairs area? Dont worry! I also love this reading space in your living so I will not remove it. Just move it a little. So that's what happened: between the large sofa and the built-in bookcase I keep the reading area. About the red chairs, I have changed them because you said that they look old but I like them event so. If you can keep them, it will be great.
The old bookcase its now redistributed. In both sides of the TV unit there are two modules (one large and one small). And the other three modules are now in the old girls bedroom. Later I will talk about them.
Let's move now to the piano corner. For me this area is the best space in the entire house, it has a lot of light and also a lot of personallity. I decided to use the blue chess plenty of books to create some seats and have another little area just to read, talk, or maybe listen the one who plays the piano with a cup of coffee and some great street views. I just love this space. I have added a blue table next the chess but I will not give you any reference because the idea is to have a second-hand old aspect little table and maybe you can find something similar in your city, or just paint some of yours like the chess.
The other parts of the apartment are more-less the same. The little sofa is now near the dinning table because this way the piano corner looks airy and integrated in the living room.
Finally, the girls old bedroom is now only for one girl. Here I placed the three modules of the actual bookcase (two large ones and one small). It will be nice if you can paint them white to fit the girly style bedroom. I kept the existing pink wardrobes because now are them all for only one girl. The bed in new and quite bigger (it's also possible having another trundle bed there) and there's a lot of free space to play. I love the sliding doors, they're a great idea, so they're staying.
And that's all. Hope you like it as much as I do. I know it can seem a crazy proposal and you loose some meters of living but it's a little sacrifice of space and it still looks airy and looks open space.
Stepping into your shoes, I firmly believe its a change for better.
Thanks.
