Residential - Apartment
Dear Client,
The proposal has been developed with a strong focus on maximizing the potential of the existing layout, while introducing a renewed spatial identity that aligns with your preference for a balanced, lightly rustic atmosphere.
Given the constraints of the apartment — particularly the requirement to maintain existing walls, drainage positions, and chimney infrastructure — the design approach carefully works within these parameters to achieve both functional efficiency and visual cohesion.
The living area has been conceived as a compact yet highly versatile space, integrating all key daily functions. A linear kitchen, approximately 2.5 meters in length, is paired with an extendable dining table to allow flexibility between everyday use and hosting. The seating arrangement includes a sofa bed and an armchair, ensuring both comfort and adaptability, while a six-shelf unit provides additional storage and display opportunities. The fireplace, as requested, becomes a defining element of the space. Due to its position relative to the chimney, a dropped ceiling has been introduced to discreetly accommodate the horizontal piping, allowing for a clean and resolved final appearance.
In the bathroom, the existing sanitary layout has been preserved to minimize plumbing interventions. The bathtub is replaced with a walk-in shower, creating a more contemporary and accessible solution. Additional storage is introduced through a shelving unit adjacent to the sink, while the washing machine is integrated into a full-height cabinet, complemented by a secondary vertical storage element to maximize capacity without compromising clarity of space.
The children’s bedroom is organized to support both rest and study, incorporating a bunk bed, wardrobe, and a compact work area with a desk and shelving.
In the master bedroom, the layout balances storage and comfort through a double bed with integrated storage, a bridge wardrobe, and a sideboard with a TV. A dedicated desk area is also included, suitable for work or personal use.
Due to the compact nature of the apartment, I strongly recommend that all cabinetry — including kitchen and storage elements — be custom-made. This approach ensures optimal use of every available centimeter, while allowing for a cohesive design language throughout. Integrated internal LED lighting is also proposed, both for functionality and to enhance the overall ambiance.
Material selection plays a key role in shaping the character of the space. Existing wood wall cladding in the master bedroom is preserved and complemented with a discreet patterned wallpaper, a strategy that extends into the living room and children’s bedroom to create continuity. The kitchen backsplash is envisioned either in tiles or a limestone-effect veneer, adding a subtle tactile quality. Cabinetry is finished in a soft cashmere tone combined with wood textures, reinforcing the warm yet restrained aesthetic. Flooring is proposed as a natural oak-finish laminate, suitable for installation over the existing surface, ensuring both practicality and visual warmth.
The primary challenge of the project was to accommodate a full range of functional requirements within a limited footprint, while still achieving a space that feels calm, inviting, and coherent. The proposal aims to resolve this through careful planning, integrated storage, and a balanced material palette — resulting in an interior that is both efficient and welcoming.
Please note that the visualizations are intended to illustrate the overall design intent; certain furniture pieces and details may vary slightly in the final realization.
I wish you all the best with your renovation project!
Best regards!
