Description

The aim of this project is to give the client a space both functional and enjoyable. To further simplify the full renovation of the basement, structural interventions have been reduced to a minimum. The result is an apartment where every preexistent architectural characteristic is not only preserved but enhanced (like the exposed beams and the brick wall) and all the spaces have been designed to be used at the best of their potential.
The possibility of a future expansion has been kept in mind during the planning process. The intention is to create a balance between the 640 square ft. apartment and the remaining rooms. In this way, when the expansion will be allowed by the law, all the rooms will be fluidly linked, without the unpleasant impression of an arbitrary intervention.
For this reason, the additional bedroom/office room is near the main bedroom, both reachable from the little hallway. The gym is in the south-west part of the basement, while the living/play room is located in the biggest and brightest area, near the living and dining room. Here the brick wall, the arc window and the ceiling are the protagonists.
Light colors have been used for the walls and the ceiling in all the basement to improve the effect of a bigger space. Natural light has an easier access inside the apartment thanks to the new entrance door (which has been lowered to floor level), the new window in the bathroom and the huge window in the living/play area (the one chosen by the client in the uploaded image).
All these elements improve the effect of a modern, sophisticated and spacious basement.
