Environment: CALALOCA LOUNGE BEACH & RESTAURANT
Imagine one place where unspoilt nature and deep relax coexist. Also, it has the inimitable gastronomic tradition of Liguria.
Our hotel is set on a natural bay of the Ligurian Riviera di Ponente and it is located within the Beigua Park, UNESCO site Global Geo-Park. It offers a range of services aimed exclusively at the wellness and fun.
The private beach of typical Ligurian coarse sand is set in a natural bay. Thanks to our sea “blue flag” you will be able to relax and take advantage of the tranquillity of this place.
In our protected and reserved cove, you can spend the whole day enjoying the sea and sun immersed in the unique natural scenery.
The accurate distribution of beach lounger and chairs allows you to take advantage of ample space for comfort and relaxation.
During the day you can take advantage of our bar-restaurant to enjoy a fresh and rich appetiser or a quick, light and tasty lunch.
The bar and restaurant are located on a terrace overlooking the beach nestled in a cove where sea, sun, rocks and vegetation come together to give life to a unique natural scenery. Through an eno-gastronomic journey designed by our chefs, you will discover the secrets of Ligurian cuisine (traditional with a modern twist). Always enjoying this spectacular view, you can enjoy our quick and tasty lunch and rich and refined menu during dinner.
GEOPARK OF BEIGUA
The Calaloca is proudly part of the Geopark, not only because it is placed there, but also as you can see and visit, on a rocky promontory right next to our beach (down our long staircase on the Aurelia road), a unique testimony of how the sea level was at an altitude of + 7 meters above sea level 125,000 years ago. The cave, called “Mizar”, carved by sea erosion on hard rock constitutes the entire bay.
EUROPA WALK
The Europe walk, realised through the recovery of the old railway line, is a path of five kilometres that connects Varazze to Cogoleto, easily accessible from two coastal towns. Upstream of the promenade there are “I piani di Invrea” which are famous for maritime pine, mimosa and its scenic beauty, also they were famous for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
The project includes different actions:
1) Beach: it is situated inside a cove of rock and plantation and it requires an improvement in terms of lighting. During the evening, a proper lighting of the best parts of the beach and generally of the location would give value also to the restaurant, especially for those that eat on the top terrace. It would also allow a better view from the top (overview to street level).
2) Restaurant: it has a very simple structure that we would evolve, especially for dinner, in a real restaurant. The opening is seasonal from April to October, so the terrace is protected only by a tarpaulin roof and a transparent tarpaulin facing the sea. However, from 2018 we will be opened all year so we need a more efficient closure (stained glass or other), a coverage less invasive for the view from the promenade but more protective (perhaps something that you can open and close as needed, depending on the weather).
We also need a more spacious kitchen opposite (draft plan-img 2) to where it is at the moment (see the original plan – img 1), a corner selling local products and a new allocation of the cabins that we still remain on the floor of the restaurant.
3) Mezzanine level (Europa promenade level): This floor has to be projected from scratch and it will be used as bar and snack, especially for tourists who live the promenade during the year. The hypothesis is to have a wooden (or other natural materials) mezzanine floor supported by poles and pillars (Europa promenade level).
The indication of local authorities is not to obstruct the view from the promenade to the sea (as it is now) where possible and to allocate a small bar and services on the side. The hypothesis is to have the bar vertically above the kitchen, which will be positioned on the lower level so as to enable a lift for food and beverages, where necessary.
We made few changes and improved our website: www.calaloca.it so if you want to have a look and get an idea of the space go and visit the website!
