Description

For this project, the Client requested for an open floor plan in the living area. Further to that, the living area should be able to spill outwards for any outdoor activities on the huge terrace.

The initial response to this brief is to relocate the kitchen to the central zone of the apartment. By doing so, the practicality of the kitchen increases as it is easily accessible from both the common and private zones. The kitchen cabinetry is constructed from steel to allow better wear and tear as well as fitting into the industrial look that the Client requested for.

The existing kitchen is replaced with a reading area, which is a cozy space for the Client to enjoy some personal time in the common area. The floor is raised and the ceiling is lowered to create that intimacy of space, while a fire place is installed to provide a warm sense of coziness. This area is wrapped up with patina metal sheet having being inspired by hollowed out machineries that are then re-used as industrial furniture or decorations.

A door at the reading area leads out to the terrace pergola where outdoor dinners can be hosted. Lush potted plants are introduced in this area to create a serene environment.

The living and dining area are fitted with a mixture of industrial and Scandinavian furniture to allow a sense of playfulness in between the sleek industrial components of the furniture. The ceiling for the common area is also reduced to the same level as the doors to create an interrupted flow of visual and space.

The master bedroom door and window is replaced with a sliding door, which steps out into the balcony. The balcony is partitioned off from the rest of the terrace for privacy reasons. The adjoining toilet is rearranged to allow access only from the master bedroom, thus transforming the common bathroom into an ensuite.

The common bathroom with the shower is also rearranged to better fit in all the bathroom fittings.

The children's bedroom and second bedroom is furnished with furniture with no other renovation works carried out. However, the walls of the children room may be painted in pastel geometric forms to allow a warm and playful environment.
