Hallo everybody! I launched this contest hoping that you can help me to find a good solution for the internal distribution of my little home…
As you can see from the attached photos, this is a 60s’ house, built on a raised floor, plus a crawl space and a very big garden. All the rooms are therefore at an elevated level, with exception of the room in the upper half on the right side, that is 4 steps under the rest and has a direct entry from the back side. The north is located in the corner at the top left.
The house is in a private road.
The room on the top left is the only one from which I can see who arrives, so I thought of making the living area in the whole left side of the house, but the best view is on the front (right) side, so I am very doubtful … I have no problems with drains or connections, cause all domestic wiring are to be redone.
Here is what I’d like (and what I would not):
Living area:
Kitchen: I like white kitchens, or also in two colors, in Nordic style. I would like to have enough space, not a small kitchen, and a peninsula or an island, where I will often eat, (without hob or sink and preferibly wood made), or something else in order to get the dining table a bit secluded. I would avoid the extendable console , since I love Charles Eames chairs and I would like to have at least 2 or 3 of them.
Living room: I like Nordic style sofas and armchairs. I do not need a large living room, because I would arrange another relax area in the garret and another one outside, widening the balcony. I have also the possibility to get a double sliding door to be placed toward the balcony. I don’t like wall units and I prefer low furnitures. I would also like to have a small area for my laptop..
In the living area, then, I’ll have to place (as much as possible in the middle of the floor) a wood-burning stove, probably a Nordpeis (measures 80 x 57 x 175 h cm), that I would highlight in some way.. I would also get a niche in which stacking wood, which I will bring inside from the back entry.
Talking about colours, I visualize a lot of white, wood, at least one bright colored wall (maybe acid green), possibly also a small blackboard wall or corner or similar and coloured accessories.
Bedroom: this is the fixed-term room! I will use this bedroom only for a couple of years, after which I intend to get my room (with private bathroom and walk-in closet, the dream of every woman) on the floor above. At the moment, therefore, I have no special needs for this room, as long as it has a double bed and I can use it in some other way (which one?)in the future
Multipurpose room: the room at the top right, with entry from the outside, shall be a multifunction room to be used as a laundry room, pantry, storage, etc .. The gas boiler is placed under the stairs and, unfortunately, the stairs must be maintained as it is, although I know it is very narrow ..
Bathroom: I need a full bathroom, with toilet, bidet, shower and sink. I also thought to build a second, very tiny bathroom, but maybe it is not necessary, given that I’ll have another above
Other things:
On the right side of the house there is a garage room, in the future, I would like to use it as a music studio or a tavern .. I originally planned to place the kitchen in this area, but I cannot afford it. I do not exclude, however, that one day I might want to connect this area with the house, but this is not essential, at least for now.
I would also like to use ina better way all that lost space in the corridor…
A very important aspect is that my budget is not so high, so it is ok to openings of the bearing walls, but not as such as to require the renovation of the foundations, etc .. It’s also ok for the possible opening of window, or to move the entrance door in place of the window at its left, but I do not want to make big changes to the structure of the house.
I would like to obtain a bright, airy, functional and not ordinary home, with a smart use of the space. I really like the niches and the unconventional solutions …
I really hope you can help me.. my dream is to open your proposal and say WOW!!
…so SURPRISE ME!! I’d love it!
Thank you all very much!
Ps. I forgot to tell you that I’m 35 years old, this is my first home and I’ll live there alone, at least at present 😉
