Following your request for redesign the house, I have tried to capture the essence of a familiar and colonial style house.
For this, and as your wish. I have transformed the garage into a guest room with bathroom and wardrobe incorporated, created a bay window in the dining room, and new door access in the kitchen and your mother's bedroom. I have also extended the family room of ground floor, transformed the kitchen with a more functional distribution, and changed the shape of the windows for a better air circulation and illumination as your wish.
In the first floor, the main bedroom has now a new access (including a door that leads to the terrace). The walking closet and bathroom has been extended also, same as the children's room.
For your comfort, I have searched all the furniture suppliers in India (except for few items in the children's room), since there's no use making a project if the client won't be able to buy the furnitures from his own country. You will find the prices in rupees and the website address in the "proposed furniture shopping list schemes". And how to place the furnitures in each room in the floor plans, to make easy the installation.
Since you requested a British colonial style, you will find in my design, a variety of wood furniture, natural fibers, leather, indoor plants, and indian textiles. Plus some geometric and floral patterns.
In the ground floor:
For the entry I have chosen a console table, a bench and a mirror in wood, to make it welcoming, since it's the first space your guest will see entering the house. In the family room, since you said it's for receiving guests and conversate, two chester sofas un neutral color, more two colonial arm chairs and two stools, make a great space to spend time. In the dining, a table for 10 people has been placed.
I have located a pooja (cabinet) altar side the stairs, facing to the living room and terrace. There was different options of pooja cabinets. I closed the space under stairs, making a closed, so that it's not a wasted space anymore, and you can use it for storage now. I have chosen one with doors you can close, but it can be changed if you wish (just check the website address and you will find other options there). The formal living room is composed by two sofas, four arm chairs and two coffee tables. A console table behind each sofa makes also a good transition, defining the living into the open space. I have extended the terrace, making possible to place an outdoor dining table and terrace set, for having breakfast or tea.
The kitchen has a new distribution, with a central island that has space for storage, cabinets, a door access to the garden, and a built in bench I shaped, with a table and 3 chairs, that you can use while cooking or just for breakfast.
Thinking about your guest I have placed 2 twins beds in the new guest room. In the other room for your mother, I have chosen a poster bed, plus some other furniture and a space for seating with a rocking chair.
In the first floor:
You will find a new family room with a built in furniture for placing the tv, an L shape sofa, and a coffee and arm chair. A good space to spend time with family. In the room for the office I have eliminated the bathroom (adding that space to the bathroom of main bedroom). And now it has been turned into a beautiful and comfortable home office to work in. The set is composed for a library, office desk, chairs and 2 elegant leather arm chairs with side and coffee table, that create a nice seating area to have tea (as your request).
For your children's room I have selected a more youthful theme, with modern furniture, geometric patterns, and blue/yellow colors. In the room children have lot of space for storage (even behind and under beds), a space to study with 2 desks and a space for playing, and receive friends/cousins, or watch tv. That is composed for a bed sofa (what you can also use in case of having more guests), two poofs, and a coffee table to place the tv. A cool bedroom to grow with. Really hope the children like their bedroom :)
For your room I selected a poster bed in colonial style, a vanity with it's mirror and included a space in the room for seating. You will find also the new door that leads to the terrace, what also allows more light to come in to the room.
I have located ceiling fans in every room of the house as you requested (except the formal dining and kitchen, for which I chosen pendants).
I have tried to create a design for the house, that makes you feel comfortable, and that be functional at the same time when receiving guests or celebrating functions in the house.
I hope you like it, and if you have any questions or doubts later, I will be happy to help you.
Best regards! :)
P.S: This has been a very extensive project with very short deliver time. I have concentrated most of my effort in getting all the furniture in India to furnish the full house. Due to this you will find the 3D images of the ground floor only. Althought, I included layouts of the real furnitures of every room, that you can figure out and have an idea how will it look. To know how you have to place all furnitures and items in every room just check the floor plans.
