Description

The layout change of the additional apartment has been kept to a minimum. This way, the new wing can be transformed into a Sleeping Area that shelters the new bedrooms and bathrooms. Inside the existing apartment, the entirety of the non-structural partition walls, along with the outside storage patio walls, have been demolished in order to achieve a larger Living Area. Before expanding the existing apartment, the Living/ Sleeping areas were divided through a North/ South axis. The living area was too dark and disfunctional. The penthouse consists of a newly designed division of spaces into Living/ Sleeping areas, through a East/West axis. This way, both wings equally recieve maximum daylight. The overall theme for the concept of the penthouse consists of Latin elegance and warmth juxtaposed with Nordic pragmatism and simplicity. Natural and multi-sensory materials are used throughout the apartment. Neutral warm greys of the flooring (cork, travertine, aggregate) combine with a checkered pattern that is included in the design of the main wash room, as a glimpse of the apartment’s inheritance. The furniture chosen for the Living, as well as Working and Sleeping places, play on the same fusion of themes, having both Italian and Nordic providers.
