My intention was to fulfil the main task within this project and create an open space concept with a visually separated bedroom area. I kept the original floor plan (bathroom and kitchen placement) to reduce investment in moving the bathroom pipes. Also, I think it's better to have more light and fresh air in the kitchen and dining area. I believe that it would be better to keep the window in the kitchen area as there is more need for aeration around food.
I used simple and efficient materials to give the space modern, cozy and tasteful feeling. The 'bedroom' area is separated from the rest of the space by wooden dividers and contains only the bed and the storage solutions. The bed is centrally positioned and gives the opportunity to move freely around it and frees up the space on the walls to be used for these solutions. This is how I got the idea to create a separate area where you can install a TV and a projector. There will be a a lounge area that can serve as a second bedroom for an extra person who will have more privacy this way.
In the kitchen, I've created a small dining area with a nice view and natural light. I used the space on the porch for the working area because it is more quiet and pleasant working environment. But, this area can be completely transformed into a sitting area if you don't want to put in a desk. This sitting area would be made out of two boxes with drawers on top of which there would be pillows for sitting and for the back, and a coffee table with each of them. For the kitchen wall coverings, I chose the classic Azulejos tiles as you mentioned in the briefing. The painted parts of the walls are in similar shades like the kitchen tiles so there will be color continuity throughout the space and everything has been synchronized with the wooden parts.
