Design Statement
This project proposes a contemporary and respectful transformation of an existing rural building, based on a clear architectural concept: two offset pavilions connected by a glazed central volume. The design divides the functional zones into a day area (living, dining, kitchen) and a night area (bedrooms, study), enhancing spatial quality, privacy, and natural light.
Rooted in Mediterranean Minimalism, the project embraces natural materials, clean geometry, and a strong relationship between interior and exterior. The use of raw concrete, exposed white-painted wooden beams, soft plaster finishes, and large sliding glass walls creates an elegant yet warm living environment.
The central connector, a transparent gallery, functions as a transitional and visual filter between the volumes and allows for integration with a patio or winter garden, reinforcing continuity between nature and architecture.
Key interventions include the demolition of internal partitions to create an open-plan layout, construction of new perimeter walls in optimized positions, and the addition of a front veranda and rear entry porch to enhance usability and outdoor interaction.
The reconstructed layout remains compact and efficient (185 sqm), while offering flexibility for modern living. The project also considers the potential for home automation systems and solar energy integration in the future.
In essence, this proposal combines modern aesthetics with rural sensitivity, resulting in a timeless architectural composition that respects the site’s identity while introducing new quality of life.
