The Wu Xing, also known as the Five Phases, the Five Movements, or “the five types of chi dominating at different times” are part of a fivefold conceptual scheme that many traditional Chinese fields used to explain a wide array of phenomena and interactions and relationships between them, from cosmic cycles to the interaction between internal organs, and from medicinal drugs to architecture.
The "Five Phases" are Wood (木 mù), Fire (火 huǒ), Earth (土 tǔ), Metal (金 jīn), and Water (水 shuǐ).
In this outdoor hardscape project these five elements are the protagonists that shape, blend and transform the various spaces with a touch of mediterranean flair to bring a sense of harmony that binds everything together.
