I am looking to develop a murphy bed and cabinetry in a spare utility room of my house. This room is in the basement and is windowless. A Murphy bed is a bed that ‘folds up’ into the wall. I can lower the bed when I need the extra bed for extra guests. When the bd is not in use, I will raise the bed into the wall and use the room for storage. I would also like to surround the murphy bed with a wall of cabinets to add to existing storage. Attached is an outlay of the room.
The two obstacles that you will find on the wall I would like to build the bed into is an existing cabinet that houses my audio/visual equipment (on the right side of the wall and a shelf that houses the house security video equipment. I would like to build the existing cabinet into the new cabinets. I would also like to enclose the security video equipment into new cabinets.
The bed/cabinets will be built into the wall that measures 12″ 2′ on the attached outline of the room. (opposite of the longest wall)
I have enclosed pictures of the room. It is difficult to get a view of the entire wall, but you can see from the pictures the existing cabinet and the security video equipment that will be part of the new cabinetry.
The existing cabinet measures 24″w x 5’7″ h x 24 d
The existing shelf measures 24″
This does not need to be an elaborate build. This is located in my basement. I am looking for a design that is rustic, and woodsy, as this house is located in the middle of the forest.
Please post your questions and I will answer them to the best of my abilities.
thank you
