For this project, I focused on renovating the old house while improving the functionality and making better use of every space without losing its character.
Starting from the entrance, I designed a practical area that includes storage for shoes and clothes, along with a small bench for convenience. This creates a welcoming and organized first impression as soon as you enter.
Moving inside, I kept the kitchen and dining as compact corner solutions to maximize space efficiency. To improve the connection between the kitchen and the living area, I slightly modified the existing wall and introduced a steel beam. This is a smart structural solution, especially in cases where we are dealing with load-bearing walls, and I would recommend reviewing the structural details to fully understand how this works.
I also added a small island with a table and two chairs, which can be used for quick meals or as an extension of the kitchen workspace.
In the living area, I aimed to create a comfortable and balanced layout. I placed a three-seater sofa with two chairs around a circular coffee table to encourage a cozy and social atmosphere. Additionally, I introduced a bar element by utilizing a wall near the bathroom, giving the space a more modern and functional touch.
For the bathroom, I worked on optimizing both comfort and storage. I added a concealed laundry wardrobe to keep the space clean and uncluttered. The design also includes a double-sink vanity and a well-organized shower area. To solve the issue of the sloped ceiling, I adjusted the wall behind the toilet to create a cleaner form, and I used the upper area above the toilet for additional storage.
Before reaching the bedroom, I enclosed a small transitional space and repositioned the door for better flow. The previous doorway was transformed into an arch to maintain continuity in the design. In this lobby, I also added storage wardrobes to increase functionality.
Inside the bedroom, I centered the bed with two bedside tables and created a dedicated dressing area. Instead of fully enclosing this space, I used a divider to maintain openness and allow natural light from the window to reach the entire room.
For the upper floor, I made more significant changes. I closed the old kitchen window and redesigned the staircase to create an internal connection to the first floor. This allowed me to also introduce a direct access to an outdoor area, where I designed a small green space with seating and plants. I would also suggest considering the use of glass around the staircase area to make it feel lighter and more open.
In the first-floor bedroom, I reworked the layout to improve comfort. The original bathroom was too small, so I expanded it and divided the space between a proper dressing area and a more functional bathroom. The bed is centrally placed with bedside tables, and a TV is positioned in front to complete the room setup.
Overall, the goal of this renovation was to create a more open, functional, and modern living environment while respecting the limitations of the existing structure and enhancing the overall flow of the house.
