Spanish Retreat
Architectural Design Description

The architectural design focuses on creating a harmonious and inviting living environment. Retaining the idea for the suggested room layout, the house has been thoughtfully designed to offer exceptional living spaces.

Adhering to a contemporary modern Spanish revival aesthetic, the material palette aligns with this style, featuring elements that blend seamlessly with the local Georgian landscape. The chosen plantings and trees are selected for their ability to thrive in this climate, enhancing the overall aesthetic. The creek-side walkway is enclosed with windows on both sides, providing an immersive experience of the natural surroundings.

The driveway initiates at the street's entry point, bifurcating into two distinct lanes with dedicated purposes. One lane guides vehicles to the garage, while the other leads directly to the residence, culminating in a discreet visitor parking area. Ample parking space is also provided near the garage for additional guest visitors, ensuring the entry of the house remains uncluttered if such need arises. This layout ensures minimal visual intrusion on the architectural form when not in use. The driveway's surface, composed of warm exposed aggregate concrete, integrates effortlessly with the house's color scheme and materials.

At the main entrance, a grand wooden door, flanked by symmetrical large windows, creates a striking modern impression. The Spanish tile roof and stone cladding on the façade underscore the Spanish revival theme. Flanking the entrance, planters and clusters of rustic black pots provide a centered, inviting approach.

Entering through the main door reveals a hallway with expansive pivoting doors that offer views of the serene courtyard. To the right lies the private wing which houses the master and guest bedrooms and to the left is the common living / dining areas.

The utility zone includes a garage entry leading into a mudroom, next to which are a laundry and a guest bathroom equipped with a shower. Adjacent to the laundry room, the pantry is discreetly accessed through a seamless door from the kitchen. The utility zone serves as a space barrier orienting the kitchen and dining towards the courtyard and the living room, creating an open plan common area.

The kitchen's design harmonizes with the interior, using warm wood tones to create a cozy atmosphere. The kitchen island serves as an ideal spot for morning routines, enhanced by large sliding doors that invite fresh air and natural light.

Kitchen amenities include an island-mounted sink, a standing oven, an induction cooktop with integrated ventilation, and a blend of open shelving and closed storage solutions. The dining and living areas seamlessly extend into the courtyard, creating versatile spaces for outdoor dining and leisure.

A dual-sided fireplace elegantly separates the living room from the screened porch, accessible from both sides. This feature offers flexibility, allowing the space to be integrated with the living room or enclosed with glass doors, depending on preference and needs.

The bedroom wing is subtly angled to maximize courtyard views from the master suite. This wing also includes two guest bedrooms connected by a Jack and Jill bathroom, a walk-in closet with ample natural light, and a vanity station facing the courtyard.

The master suite features a spacious bathroom linked to the walk-in closet, leading into a bedroom that offers uninterrupted views of the surrounding nature and courtyard.

The backyard landscape is designed as an extension of the indoor living space, accessible from multiple points including the hall, kitchen, living, and dining areas. This outdoor area features two prominent trees for shade and privacy, a central dining space with elegant outdoor furnishings, and leisure zones. A concrete water feature near the dining area adds a sense of tranquility. The use of natural materials throughout the landscape enhances its attractiveness and provides a serene retreat.
