one is better than two

Briefing

Hallo, we are buying the flat next to ours to create a unique apartment of about 150 smq. The flat is at the second floor of a very quiet street in Rome.

This is a very important step for our family, so thank you for your contributions!

The need is to completely renovate both where we live and the new space to better suite our family needs. We have 3 kids, of 7, 6 and 4 months, plus would like to host an au-pair girl/be able to have guests for long period of time.

We like the Scandinavian style, and more in general clean elegant design but warm and functional. There is a need to work on making the spaces bright and relaxing with neutral colors (like dove gray, sage green, blue cane). Spaces are flexible, only the column in the current living room is unmovable.

Environments to be created are the following:
• large living room (I would like to keep the living room on the most bright side), many sofas while the dining table/space is not very important for us (solvable with an extendable console)
• large kitchen with personality (we really cannot have an open kitchen having 3 kids, but a glass wall would be really nice)
• minimum 4 bedrooms: 1 master bedroom with wardrobe and office corner (no bathroom), 1 twin room, 1 single room and a guest room (with the option of single/double bed)
• 3 bathrooms (one with bathtub)
• laundry room with washing machine and dryer
• entrance with well integrated wardrobe (limited visibility)

Lighting
Note that the long side of the flat is a North, while the long terrace is a West. The small windows look at an internal space “chiostra” with limited light. So lighting will be a key element

Materials
With kids and limited time available, solutions must require limited maintenance and made with durable materials. Not necessarily looking “brand new”

Furniture
There is little furniture we want to keep, so please consider to realize custom furniture by plasterboard/wood, especially to create storage spaces.
In general, we do not dislike a combination of “ikea-like” mixed with some elements of design/with more personality
