Briefing
Renovating and extending an old damp house to be our home and central hub of a multi-generational 'complex'.
The plan to to keep the majority of the existing internal walls for cost and speed of build (will consider altering).
Open plan living works well for us, separate zones but still connected. TV snug and dining area in back conservatory extension, more formal lounge area in front of the house and a central kitchen area. Underfloor heated stone floors throughout for continuity.
Stuck on kitchen layout design. Our space for the kitchen ('D') is large almost 8.5m(w) x 7.5m(d) however with access needed to the plant room ('A'), the WC (it makes no sense to walk all the way to the front door to access) and the feature fireplace into the formal living room the wall space is limited and the potential for 'dead zones' high.
I realise I need to speak to kitchen designers however I'm thinking if I list what I want/need you clever souls may be able to work out smart ideas with the available space ('D') and perhaps better use of existing or proposed spaces (ie. areas marked 'B' 'C' and 'E')
In the kitchen I want painted shaker style units, with drawers rather than cupboards on the lower level for accessibility. I am sick of clutter so large pantry style cupboards (to hide things away eg toaster, coffee machine) are fine but there must still be work surface. The idea is to store large seasonal items (food processors, slow cookers etc) in a separate (or amalgamated) panty/larder/utility room ('B' or 'C') alongside the washing machine & dryer. I need an island, a large sink, large fridge freezer, dishwasher, large 5-6 ring downdraft electric hob and 2-3 electric ovens (no gas on site).
Whilst aesthetically I would prefer the ovens in the island I am not getting any younger so shoulder height would probably be better. In the island I want the hob and small prep sink so I am preparing and cooking facing guests/family who will need seating.
Being in the countryside a dog shower /wc and somewhere to take off and store work boots etc is a must ('C')
In an ideal world we'd have a wine storeroom with a n additional wine fridge and shelves/sides for glasses/gin/cutting limes etc but I cannot work out where. I did consider blocking off the hallway entrance ('E') and making something next to and under the stairs?Another statement way of doing it would be an underfloor one but our budge simply doesn't stretch to £30k for wine storage!!
I have added some stills (in reference photos) from the cgi render we had done. There is also a photo of the current house and an idea of what we are aiming for after external cladding and render. Also extended the time due to questions received. Hope this helps!
