Description

The project proposes different solutions that follow the directives issued by the client in the brief but also in the questions and answers section of the competition.

The alpha solution clearly divides the existing volume into two distinct areas: the local garage of the minimum size imposed by the regulations of the place and the area of the apartment facing the side garden through two new large holes and through a large shaded porch with re-closable curtains. The apartment has three sub-areas: the bathroom with anteroom, the kitchen-dining room and the living room that houses a sofa bed so that it can be transformed into a bedroom. There are no mezzanines and the roof is reconfigured with a symmetrical double flap through the installation of a counter-ceiling. The bathroom instead has a flat roof above which is formed a loft storage use accessible only from the garage. Two variants are also proposed for the alpha solution, which describe an organization of the open-space interior space, which can however be divided into two rooms by moving the folding door panels. Furthermore, two different frontal and side entry arrangements are also proposed.

The beta solutions incorporate the indications of a variant without maintenance of the garage but with the creation of bicycle and stroller storage. In such solutions there is a mezzanine that accommodates the bedroom, structured so as to make the most of the height needed at the ridge. In this regard (see the gamma solution section) it is envisaged to replace the horizontal tie-rods with pillars and stiffening of the ridge beam.

The gamma solution is a variant of the alpha solution that offers a mezzanine, to cover the garage area, which houses the bedroom and a storage room accessible exclusively from the garage. The mezzanine is accessed by a new double-ramp staircase whose landing is at the ridge and then at the highest point of the attic to facilitate its use and access to the bed area. In this solution, the horizontal wooden tie-rods must be replaced with pillars so as to make the most of the net useful interior height and to cancel the pivoting system of the inclined roof.

The gamma solution can be implemented in two stages: first time the existing garage room is divided into two sectors; according to time, the staircase and the mezzanine are built, which houses the bedroom from the bed.

The garden is organized with a large and regular lawn in front of a new porch that dissolves into distinct and collected areas of relaxation between them separated by unstructured hedges. The design is dominated by the large local palms and the artificial night lighting made up of design objects such as luminous spheres that can be moved over the entire surface of the garden.
