the secret garden

Briefing

Hi dear designers,

we’ve opened this Contest to obtain a green space to enjoy both from the inside peering at it through the broad windows of the house, both from the outside barefoot on the grass.

In our minds the space will be divided in a functional way:

- A small vegetable garden for a family of four;

- A space where we can dine with friends;

- A green space for the children and dog to play;

- A corner for herbs;

- An outdoor shower;

- Some fruit tree;

- Something that screens us from the outside to preserve privacy.

The garden is made by two main lots adjoining a room protruding from the house which is a winter garden.

The first area is between the garage and the house and is accessible from the driveway. Eastward there is the driveway to access the garage, that is about 50 centimetres lower. This area is going to be linked northward with the entrance of the house through some steps and westward with the garden (that has some difference in height) through another flight of steps. We will put a woodshed close to the garage wall that stands between the corner and the pedestrian walkway. This area will be the main sight from the living area.

The second area is between the shorter side of the house eastward and the wall that adjoins the other property from which we will like to be shielded (you can see this detail in the photo where is the green neighboring house). In the south part of this area there is a small tavern (the building that adjoins the garage). In the west part there is the perimeter wall and the other house. To the north-west there is a sight on S. Giorgio hill. In the east part there is the perimeter wall of our house, the kitchen’s window and the French door from the winter garden. This area will be the one in which we will spend more time.

Vorremmo ottenere uno spazio verde godibile sia da dietro le grandi pareti vetrate della casa, sia fuori con i piedi nell'erba.
Pensiamo ad uno spazio diviso in aree con diversi scopi:

Un piccolo orto per una famiglia di quattro persone

Uno spazio per i pranzi conviviali con amici

Uno spazio verde per i giochi dei bambini e il nostro cane

Un angolo dedicato alle erbe aromatiche

Una barriera che ci permetta di avere la nostra privacy

Una doccia esterna

Qualche albero da frutta

Il giardino si compone di due blocchi principali delimitati da una parte sporgente della casa adibita a giardino d'inverno.
Area uno; compresa tra garage ed edificio a cui si accede dal passo carraio. Ad est di quest'area uno spazio carrabile per accesso al garage che avrà una quota più bassa della casa di circa 50 cm. Questa zona dovrà essere raccordata a nord con l'ingresso della casa tramite alcuni gradini ed ad ovest con il giardino su una quota differente con alcuni gradini. La parete del garage compresa tra lo spigolo e la porta pedonale sarà adibita a legnaia.
Quest'area é la vista principale dall'interno della zona giorno.

ARea due; compresa tra il lato più corto della casa ad est e il muro confinante con un'altra proprietà da cui vogliamo schermarci (vedi foto casa verde confinante). Questa parte di giardino ha a sud la tavevernetta (edificio in continuità con il garage) ad ovest muro perimetrale e casa vicini, a nord-ovest vista sulla collina di S. Giorgio, ad est parete perimetrale della casa com finestra cucina e porta finestra giardino d'inverno. Questa sarà l'area più da vivere.
