Project Description – Villa Renovation & Living Area Design

This project focuses on enhancing the functionality, aesthetics, and spatial experience of a two-story villa surrounded by a garden. The client’s main objective was to improve the internal layout of the ground floor—particularly the living area—while introducing a cohesive furnishing concept and realistic visualizations to better understand the final outcome.

Design Approach

The design process began with a careful study of the existing layout, identifying opportunities to optimize circulation, increase storage efficiency, and improve natural lighting. Based on this analysis, three design proposals were developed, each offering a different approach to organizing the living space while addressing the client’s needs.

First Design Proposal

In the first concept, the entrance experience was enhanced by adding a compact shoe storage unit with an integrated mirror, creating a practical and welcoming transition into the home.

The living area was reconfigured to maximize functionality and comfort. Special attention was given to the space beneath the staircase, which was transformed into a multi-functional storage zone. This includes concealed cabinets, a TV wall mounted onto a storage system, and additional usable space behind the TV unit. Part of this area was also allocated as a laundry wardrobe, repositioned closer to the main living space instead of its previous location in the distant garage, improving daily convenience. Access to this laundry area is provided through the nearby lobby leading to the bathroom, which was also redesigned for better efficiency.

The seating area was defined using a sectional sofa, coffee table, and rug to create a comfortable and visually cohesive zone facing the TV. Behind the seating area, a dining space was introduced, allowing for smooth circulation around it. A chest of drawers was placed parallel to the dining table, complemented by the addition of new side windows. These windows were carefully introduced to improve natural light distribution, ensuring the space receives light from multiple directions rather than relying only on the existing front and rear openings.

In the kitchen, the layout was optimized by relocating the sink to align with the bathroom plumbing wall, improving technical efficiency. An island was added to replace the previous dining setup within the kitchen, while the dining area was relocated to the living space for better spatial flow.

Second Design Proposal

The second concept builds on the first while considering structural constraints. Window placements were adjusted to fit within the existing structural system, ensuring that beams and columns remain untouched. High-level windows were introduced beneath structural beams to maintain integrity while still enhancing natural lighting and spatial quality.

Third Design Proposal

The third option maintains much of the original layout preferred by the client, preserving the kitchen dining area and the existing laundry room location. The focus here was on refining the living space and enhancing its visual appeal.

In this proposal, the TV was relocated to the opposite wall, which was designed with a wood finish to create a strong focal point. The seating arrangement was adjusted accordingly to face this feature wall. The space beneath the stairs was explored as a flexible design element, offering multiple possibilities such as a cozy seating nook, closed storage, or a decorative feature with plants and integrated lighting to create a vibrant atmosphere.
