Description

Hallway / Dining Area / Living Area

Due to the small size of the rooms, it is proposed to incorporate custom design furniture to maximise functionality, space and also to create spatial delimitation without the use of partitions that can saturate the small space. Emphasis has been given to both the function and the aesthetic dimension.

The hallway is separated from the living area with a furniture unit which incorporates storage and a bench for shoe-changing. At the same time a glass partition allows for visual contact between the hallway and the living area ensuring visual continuity and eliminating a claustrophobic effect. The existing radiator is replaced with a new mirror finish radiator to create a sense of depth.

Light grey shades have been selected for the walls and furniture. A change of colour to walls creates a spatial boundary between the hallway and the living area.

The hallway furniture continues to become a bookcase and storage to finally become an integral element of the dining area. It incorporates a bench which limits the need for additional chairs, thus allowing for a more spacious dining area. The unit also incorporates ample storage cupboards and a wine rack. The dining area has been positioned in continuity with the existing kitchen to facilitate the daily use of both areas.

The living room is arranged around a multimedia furniture unit which incorporates storage and allocated areas for a record player, sub-woofer and TV decoder. The TV is wall mounted. A vertical stripe of a lighter colour is proposed behind the TV area allowing to break the monotony and to animate the aesthetic of the proposed arrangement.

All furniture has been carefully chosen to maximise the spatial potential. It is proposed to either replace or paint all doors and skirting in white colour. Ceiling to be white in colour. This will participate to the overall improvement of the room.

The lighting follows a minimalist approach by introducing a system of recessed magnetic tracks. The tracks have been strategically positioned to define all areas. The tracks can accommodate a variety of lighting fittings giving numerous possibilities for lighting arrangement. In order to accommodate the proposed lighting system, it is proposed to provide a suspended ceiling throughout.

Bathroom

The bathroom arrangement has been altered in such a way to allow for an optimal and functional use of the space. It is proposed to replace the existing casement window with a sliding window allowing the shower to be positioned to the end of the room. A glass partition separates the shower area. Towel fixing rails are fixed on the glass partition.

It has been taken advantage of the existing corners to create fake breast walls to accommodate services and recessed boxes for storage.

The bidet and WC along with the hydro brush are located on the left-hand side wall. The vanity unit and the makeup area are located on the right-hand side wall. It is proposed to install a new mirror finish radiator.

Both left hand-side and right-hand side walls are tiled with a light colour tile while the floor and the other walls are tiled with a dark colour tile. Ceiling is in white colour.

Indirect lighting is favoured for the bathroom: mirror back light, strip lighting to each side and spotlights in the shower area. Similarly, to the living area, a suspended ceiling is proposed throughout to accommodate the proposed lighting system.

Corridor

The walls are proposed to be painted with a light grey colour in continuity with the living area. It is proposed to either replace or paint all doors and skirting in white colour.

A central recessed magnetic track is proposed in the middle of the area.
