Description

Project concept The project of renovation for this
residential unit, located in Corfu, is based on the vocation of this land:
tourism and recreation. For this reason, the design choices
have been principally directed toward an appropriation of the external spaces
contiguous to the house with a series of solutions and infrastructures that
transform the surrounding area in a continuation of the interior spaces to
live, in a game "inside-outside", which is combined with the lush
vegetation of the area and that creates continuity with the same. The naturalistic aspect has made the
choices toward natural materials such as wood and stone, which evoke the old
houses / farms, but they are revisited with a new and modern spirit, closer to
the needs and tastes of the contemporary life and to brick-concrete structure
of the existing building, as we could deduce from the picture and from the
relief. After careful consideration of the
budget, we have abandoned the idea of reconstruction of the building, focusing on the
reorganization of the outdoor and indoor spaces with stone cladding on some
walls, a big fireplace, a single open staircase, the organization of an open space, divisible in multiple
environments when it is necessary. The house, obtained from combining
the two original separate units, consists of an entrance hall, kitchen and
living areas, a large bathroom and an open staircase, replacing the two
existing, which connects the first floor, where is organized the sleeping area
with four bedrooms and a bathroom, and an additional big terrace. So we need to unify the roof by
replacing the flaps / truss with a flat floor (we can cover the soffit with
beads and wooden beams, as it is usual in farmhouses. The decision to exclude the pitched
roof is also required for the architectural style, because the trusses clash
with the horizontality of the project, dictated by pergolas placed on the
ground floor. You can have also a large terrace (as required) to be furnished to
your liking, as a solarium, with areas covered with sunscreen, without changing
the original sizes and without sacrificing the interior spaces of the house. The choise to keep the original
sizes avoids other possible building charges for the increase of the house, and
help us not to increase the costs for the design and construction of a new
structure to be anchored to the existing. We haven't also to respect the safety
requirements dictated by the earthquake standards in that area, with all the
problems of adjustment that entails. Our choice allows more investment in
materials and in all structures in support of residence, such as the garden,
the many pergolas, a swimming pool with changing rooms, the citrus grove, the
numerous stone cladding, solarium with sunshades on the terrace, large windows,
the two bungalows. The external spaces, as already
mentioned, are made of several distinct areas, but all architecturally
connected together with a clair and common leitmotiv for all: simplicity,
naturalness, coherence. Two large pergolas spread in the air
starting from the living area of the house, divided from those only with a large window
that can be opened completely when it is necessary. They end on a large pool area with solarium and
additional rooms. The pergola is supported by pillars and stone walls of great
thickness, which evoke the materiality of ancient buildings with a strong and
important role. A path with pergola is the
connection between the open spaces in front of the house and the parking with
pergola on the backside, along the side of the house; it looks on a green area,
designed entirely for the planting of citrus. A big barbecue, located near to the
entrance of the house with a large relax area closed to the living area and the
pool, favors situations of maximum user-friendliness and aggregation. Possible trails to achieve the
bungalow and the enclosure, which will delimit the area surrounding the home,
not the whole owned land, can be assessed only after the inspection of the
area, because a solution would be very uncertain now. We don't know anything of
the ground, as the slopes, the amount of trees and their position. It isn't excluded the possibility to
preserve some existing plants into the areas of the project to strengthen the
union between indoor and outdoor, between natural and anthropogenic. TOTAL COST OF THE WORK 1.
