Project description

## Ethan's bedroom – Design Concept

* The room is designed around the child’s interest in dinosaurs, using a refined palette of sage and olive green, warm beige, off-white and natural oak to create a playful yet timeless atmosphere.

* The main objective is to provide a bedroom that works well during early childhood and can be easily transformed into a suitable teenage room at approximately 15 years old.

* A preliminary teenage version has been developed to demonstrate how the same layout and principal furniture elements can evolve without requiring a complete redesign.

* The wardrobe, desk, bed structure and storage units feature simple forms and durable finishes that remain appropriate as the child grows.

* The dinosaur theme is mainly introduced through removable elements, including wall decals, decorative cut-out panels, toys, accessories and themed textiles.

* The selected Schleich playset complements the dinosaur rug, turning it into an interactive landscape for imaginative adventures and storytelling.

* The illuminated dinosaur cut-out panels are designed as detachable decorative fronts. They can later be removed or replaced with plain panels without altering the main furniture structure.

* The panoramic dinosaur wallpaper creates the principal feature wall behind the bed. In the future, it can be replaced with paint, simpler wallpaper or wall panelling while retaining the existing bed and lighting arrangement.

* The large rug is designed as an illustrated adventure map, defining the central play area and encouraging imaginative storytelling rather than serving only as decoration.

* A compatible play set can be arranged across the rug to create bridges, pathways, platforms and adventure scenes, allowing different stories and play scenarios to be developed.

* The lightweight play tent provides a comfortable reading and imaginative-play corner. It can be moved whenever necessary and positioned at a safe distance from the radiator.

* The central floor area remains open and flexible, supporting different activities during childhood and allowing more mature furniture to be introduced later.

* The desk is positioned away from the window opening to keep it unobstructed, while remaining close enough to benefit from natural daylight during study and creative activities.

* The television is positioned between the two windows in accordance with the project brief, while maintaining clear access to both radiators and preserving the visual balance of the wall.

* Closed storage keeps the room visually organised, while selected open shelves provide accessible display space for books, dinosaur figures and decorative objects.

* As the child grows, the oversized toys, tent, themed rug, wall footprints and decorative panels can be removed and replaced with a larger study chair, a simpler rug, neutral artwork and more mature accessories.

* Overall, the concept provides an imaginative and functional bedroom for the child’s current needs, while allowing it to become an elegant teenage room through limited, straightforward and cost-conscious modifications.
