Project description

The overall concept was to include the new space within the tone of the rest of the existing planting and park, but with a sustainable twist, and adding the required spaces for children to play in nature and a quiet spot for sitting in the shade, surrounded by beautiful planting.
The dry creek, besides being part of the play space, helps prevent storm runoff to flow into the pool. This is also helped by the treatment done to the rest of the surfaces, using gravel, mulch and planting, runoff will be slowed down and local infiltration will be enhanced, reducing the amount of total runoff with the combination of various strategies.
The garden design was done using drought tolerant California natives, which are commonly used in xeriscaping and are known for their ecological value, attract butterflies and are available in various San Diego nurseries.
The sitting area is defined by a simple but beautiful stone bench, the item and material were selected to be long lasting and stand the hardships of weather with minimum maintenance.
