Description

Dear client,

Our main intention is to keep as much walls as possible, to demolish only the necessary - but to keep the logic of the space. At first, considering every position of the existing rooms, we decided to keep that technical block that is consisted of two bathrooms and kitchen in the middle. It’s easier and cheaper to keep the installations as they are.

The existing kitchen has the small balcony that can be used for extra storage, which is very useful, also gives the natural ventilation and light - so we desided to keep it as a central position of the service area.
It’s also very close to the entrance so you don’t have to drag your bags through the whole house. We closed one kitchen door and made it into shoe storage,
and where the other door is we desided to create glass wall that will give the natural light and sense of space to the corridor area.

The smallest bathroom in the technical block we turned into guest bathroom because it’s closest to the entrance and the living room.
Also the room next to it we kept as a guest/babysitter/meditation room. Who ever uses it has his/her own peace and quiet.

The second existing bathroom forms the night area with it’s small storage hallway and two bedrooms. This is the part of the house the boys are going to use. It is not connected to the master bedroom. We thought getting older will bring certain changes to the family life, and in some point of the boy’s life they will feel the need for physical separation from their parents.
For that reason we separated master bedroom from the night zone, instead, we wanted to connect it to the big and spacious balcony, making it a room with a view.

The master bedroom is part of the main concept - which is creating one big, linear, fluid, spacious room that is separated with different functions. We can call it the Day zone.
The main generator of this concept is inserted wooden “box” which acts as a functional separator between the night zone, service zone and the day zone. It is main architectural gesture in the apartment and besides good design, it should also support a lot of different functions. It can be used as a corridor between kitchen and the dinning, it could be a storage, it could be working station. When open it could be part of the living room, or it could be closed if you need it to be more private.

As we said, it generates one big linear room which we separated by function. In the back we put the master bedroom. It is connected to the balcony and it has its own inserted bathroom that can be used only by persons who use the master bedroom. This is the third bathroom, that is also close to the technical block. This is important information considering the length of the installations.
The bedroom is semi-private - it is separated with glass panels from the dinning and the living room, but it could be fully private when the heavy curtains are closed.

Dinning takes the central position of the room and it is close to the kitchen when the corridor is open.

Living room is oriented towards that existing wooden shelf that we decided to keep. It generates the living room and our suggestion is to keep it in original color. It will give you a sense of
antiques and history in this modern looking apartment.
