Project Description — Flexible Apartment, UK
The bedroom and bathroom doors have been fitted with mirrors, while the kitchen door features translucent glass to enhance light flow and spatial continuity.
Naturally, depending on budget and on-site technical conditions, certain design elements or furnishings may require adjustment. This project presents a developed concept, not a finalized solution — it is intended to be refined together with the client based on functional and aesthetic priorities.
The kitchen is designed along a single wall, with the washing machine, refrigerator, and dishwasher fully integrated within the cabinetry. In Solution 2, the bathroom has been enlarged to include additional space for laundry and storage.
Overview
This interior proposal reimagines the apartment as a warm, characterful, and highly adaptable home — designed to transition seamlessly between everyday living, entertaining, and hosting guests. The design builds upon the client’s request for a flexible, layered, and atmospheric environment inspired by the Soho House aesthetic and the tactile richness of Art Deco and Art Nouveau detailing.
Concept and Atmosphere
The overall mood is sophisticated yet inviting — a balance between deep, saturated tones and soft lighting.
Walls are treated in warm rust-red and earthy neutrals, framed by elegant grey wainscoting that adds architectural rhythm and depth. Lighting is layered and adjustable, combining sconces, pendants, and table lamps to create a cinematic ambience that can shift from intimate to lively.
Natural plants are integrated throughout, softening the darker palette and adding a sense of freshness and calm.
Living and Dining Area
The living and dining zones merge classic comfort with modern flexibility.
A teal velvet sofa anchors the space, paired with mid-century wood accents and brass details. The long wooden dining table extends to host up to eight guests, while a combination of pendant and wall lighting sets a rich, social tone.
The design anticipates possible future flexibility — allowing for sliding partitions or heavy drapery to adapt the layout for entertaining or more private configurations.
Kitchen
The kitchen adopts a refined shaker style in olive green, combining warmth and practicality.
It accommodates all major appliances and generous counter space, with an additional breakfast corner defined by a brick arch niche and subtle Art Deco lighting.
The layout supports the client’s wish for a separable yet connected kitchen — easily adaptable to integrate with the living area for open entertaining or closed off for quiet everyday use.
Bedroom
The master bedroom continues the tonal richness of the main living space, pairing soft neutrals with deep wall colors and accent lighting.
The upholstered headboard, symmetrical nightstands, and framed artwork convey calm elegance and hotel-like comfort. Integrated wardrobes maintain a clean silhouette and maximize storage.
Guest Room / Study
The study doubles as a guest room, featuring bespoke shelving, a comfortable workspace, and decorative panels with a subtle Art Nouveau motif.
The proposed integration of a wall bed (Murphy bed) would allow the space to transform effortlessly from home office to guest suite or small fitness area, supporting the apartment’s flexible concept.
Bathroom
The bathroom blends Art Deco geometry with tactile finishes: deep green tiles, brass fixtures, and dark marble flooring create a moody, luxurious feel.
Layered lighting ensures adaptability — from soft ambient tones to brighter task illumination when needed.
Summary
This proposal celebrates the spirit of flexible living — where function, comfort, and atmosphere coexist.
It combines craftsmanship, warmth, and timeless materials to create an interior that feels both personal and adaptable, suitable for everyday routines, creative work, and social gatherings alike.
